Problem downloading custom levels to Mac
by RJ Smith · in Marble Blast · 02/21/2005 (1:46 pm) · 3 replies
I've tried a few times this weekend to download custom levels but my browser times out after 60 seconds. Trying an FTP client just locks up the machine.
I wonder if it's something wrong with my machine?

To enable downloading from HTML in Safari:
go to the Apple menu (upper left corner of screen)
System Preferences
Network
Click on Configure
Click Proxies
Now click on the check box that says "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" so that it's ON
Click Apply Now
Try downloading now. If this doesn't work, you may have to cycle it off and on again (clicking Apply Now after each change)
Thanks for the brainstorming, Alex! -RJ

You're right, OS X has a firewall that is enabled on my Mac... not sure if that is the default setting from the factory or if it's a case of user error (grin). To enable downloading from HTML in Safari:

Note: turning the firewall completely off may also help, but the above fix is more secure.-RJ
