Serious issue with GeForce 5600 Fx using TSE

I've got a serious problem with my graphics card.
Since I downloaded Tse demo I noticed very slow frame rates (from 8 to 11 fps) and a "choppy" feel of the application.
I thought it was due to the very beginning of code profiling and so I decided to buy TSE EA.
What a mess !!
I've got it compiled in Visual C++ 6 without a problem- 0 errors 0 warnigs - (after downloading and installing Dx9 and the extra package) and, when I tested the tse_debug, I discovered that some part of the screen were not rendered at all (in the loading screen) and, during the orc animation my point of view was locked (no mouse movements received by the engine - I suppose).
When I tried to start a new mission, it seems ok but I have the same problem, I move the mouse and nothing happens.
The Fps remained the same, from 8 to 11.....
I've read all sorts of forums, changed my nvidia drivers from 66.93 downgrading down to 45.33 (trought 61.77), tried to upgrade them with the Omega version but no luck. The uninstallation procedure was made in safe mode.
I've reinstalled 3 times the directx package (October 2004 - last good for VC6) and the extras. Nothing changed.
The consolle output seems normal (it tells me nothing strange than that it could not locate the profiles for the nvidia card - issue that I have seen also for a Volari card with the same FPS problem).
Sometimes (in an apparently erratic sequence) Xp freezes and tells me that the nv4...something is not responding properly and then ask a reboot.....
Any idea ? Bad drivers ? GeForce dying ?
(My card goes like a charm with all other games I tried, including Doom3 and HL2 with more than decent performances...)
Think that today I will go out buyng an Ati, just to test it...:(

Anyway, thanks for the FYI, it cleared me that it may be a hardware issue of that particular model...

Mine is a 256 Mb model but I supposed that dropping the frame rate was a particularity of Nvidia 5600. Tomorrow, as I said, I will take a test run with a ATI and see what's happening....Anyway, thanks for the FYI, it cleared me that it may be a hardware issue of that particular model...

Works fine on my desktop with its aging 4200.

I have a 64mb 5600 in my sony laptop, and its really bad. Unrunnable in fact.Works fine on my desktop with its aging 4200.

Even if I could not see some of the most advanced shaders the difference is unbelievable.
I'm wondering why nVidia has this kind of problems...or maybe is really an issue of the 5600 model.

Tried today using an old 9250 128Mb Ati and it runs fine. 30/38 Fps.Even if I could not see some of the most advanced shaders the difference is unbelievable.

$pref::Video::forcePixVersion = 0; to 1.4 and 1 respectively to force it to run in ps1.4 mode.

The geforce fx 5*** line has very slow PS 2.0 performance. In client/prefs, change $pref::Video::forcedPixVersion = 1.1;$pref::Video::forcePixVersion = 0; to 1.4 and 1 respectively to force it to run in ps1.4 mode.

Thanks for the hint, I'll give it a try and tell you how it goes.

I noticed you mentioned tse_dubug.exe. Did you try recompiling in release mode?
I have a geForce 5500FX 256MB and the tse_debug runs at about 20fps where as the tse.exe (release) runs at about 80-100fps. The debug is much slower. May want to give it a try if you haven't already.

No, actually I didn't recompile in release mode. Fine to hear that there might be a sooooo big difference!!!!
I will try immediately to test it !
Thanks a lot !

I've noticed that there's a long delay during the loading phase of any shader-using application; I think that the problem resides in VS/PS 2.
Infact (thanks Chemeleon) setting the preferences for PS 1.4 boosted the fps from 11 to 40, but I still think there's something wrong with that card.
It's not acceptable that a box running AMD at over 2.00 Gzh (roughly a 2700+), 768 Mb@400Mhz has so poor performances, and the same system using an old ati 9250 with half the ram (128) boosts fps up to 40 (same as a nVidia model that *must* have superiors performances, using the same shaders version - 1.4 -).
BTW, @Gary, what drivers are you using? I've heard that the last drivers released from nVidia may be buggy....

No way, neither recompiling in release mode nor tweaking the card in almost every way possible helped.I've noticed that there's a long delay during the loading phase of any shader-using application; I think that the problem resides in VS/PS 2.

I'm using the 66.93 drivers from nVidia's site.

Sorry to hear that didn't help. Hope we can help figure this one out.I'm using the 66.93 drivers from nVidia's site.

Anyway, don't mind; I've bought today a 9800 pro to experiment some advanced and eye stunning shader.

@ Gary, thanks for the info. Drivers are the same as mine; Undoubtely the problem is my card.Anyway, don't mind; I've bought today a 9800 pro to experiment some advanced and eye stunning shader.

I own a nVidia 5600 Fx 256 meg, and I have a gig of ram and it still ran crappy. Doom III runs a zillion times better on my computer than this does. Tis a shame since we have the TSE license. Oh well, guess I'll just have to upgrade in the near future.

On my new computer with a much newer video card (9800GT IIRC, not home at the moment), I was getting FPS greater than 100 in every single scene and viewpoint.
