Does anyone know of a good free or low cost editor? My ultra edit I got with the book expired and I don't like it enough to pay for it.

I saw an editor spmeplace on the web but I can't remember where or what it was called. It was kind if universal it would work with Torque, Dark Basic Pro which I use and another one that I don't remember. Anyone know about this one?

Crimson Edit, Brain Editor, Notepad, JEdit, etc...

Add Textpad to the list :)

I second TextPad.

Straightforward, lightweight, highly configurable syntax highlighting, blah blah blah...

SciTE! I love that editor. And it's free and multiplatform.

I third TextPad, and you cant beat the price at $30

ConTEXT beats the $30 price by being FREE... :)

Somebody here created a TorqueScript highlighter for it...

My problem with Java-based editors (like the ones recommended by the book)
is that they trigger my video card's antialiasing, thus slowing everything down.

Don't understand why the nVidia drivers kick into antialiasing mode when
a Java program runs (happens when web-browsing too),
but that's what happens.

I still use Tribal IDE that I used to mod Tribes 2 with. Works great and free.

I got addicted to VI in Unix land, and although it's a love-hate relationship, I can't live without it. I use gvim for all my editing.
You can use it in either classic VI mode or in DOS/Windows mode.

Does anyone know if TBE will work with the version of TGE that comes with the book? I"d be interested in learning on it while learning my way through the book.

I 2nd Brain Edit Pro, especially since I beta test it, and know that the author will make any changes we want to the editor, as long as it's reasonable that is, and he is an active author whom responds, and tries to actually support his product, example: the dark basic pro context help wasn't working correctly, I gave him a screen shot, explained it, he had a new version for me to test later that night, and when I gave him feedback he had a more improved version the next day, and he is always looking for suggestions for it, and is open to ideas.

PS. Tell him that I sent you, I want him to know that I am trying to help him and the torque community out, I already emailed him once about some new stuff for torque.
