Looking for a good web host service

by Marvin Hawkins · in General Discussion · 02/16/2005 (7:28 am) · 11 replies

Hi all,

I went to OLM.Net and checked over thier hosting options but i'm new to this whole business start up thing. So my question is what is a good amount of web space that I should have per month. Keep in mind that I dont have a game done. And when i do have at least a demo done, how much transfer space is good. And also anbody know of any other web hosting services I have the tools to build a site myself so I would like to find a hosting service that supports uploading and other ftp things.

thanks in advance,

Marvin

I use PHP Webhosting 9.95 / mo with unlimited bandwidth, emails, storage, etc. You can't beat it. It's like my second hard drive. I've used them for 5 years. 0 complaints.

(They give you 500meg to begin with, but if you need more, it's free by just asking...it's amazing.)

However...that link above from our community looks like a great deal, too. Better, even...if you know you'll be under 2 gigs.

You could also check www.supportingit.com, which is fantastic..... But I may be biased :-)

I dont enforce strict quotas, so I dont mind peaks, but if you regularly go over you would have to upgrade.

Full cPanel, virus checking, spam assasin, easy install of Mambo/PostNuke/Invision/phpBB/Coppermine etc

Use the coupon code GarageGames to get a discount

Telephone support is free, but I'm in the GMT zone.

If you want to research web hosts go to www.webhostingtalk.com and get reviews etc and advice.

@Michael
I tried to send an email to the address on their site and it got bounced back, and like Ian said no FAQ or forum.

I did come across this hosting site called Canaca. I can't vouch for them but you get some pretty nice disk space, 20 gig, in their middle of the road package that costs $7.95 a month. It's not unlimited bandwith though but for that same package you get 400 gig of bandwith.

hagenhosting.com/ is a nice professional web hosting company (offers low to some very high end features)

We've been using Dathorn and have been really happy with it. My personal site is on a much much cheaper service p4host, which even with it's fly-by-night look has been working perfectly for me for over a year now.

Okay cool, I like the one that you suggested Michael. But if you go to www.olm.net they logos look exactly the same as gamedevhosting. the price sounds right. but are they the same?
