Hi not sure under what forum to post this but im curious as to whats going on with the SDK CD ?
When we first signed up (over 2 months ago) we sent in the money for postage and handling of the delivery of a cd
however we still have never recieved the cd (i want it for the worldcraft apps e.t.c)
When checking its status it still says not shipped.
Why is this and when will it be shipped ?
Regards

The last thread to meantion the CD that I could find was dated Oct 20th. That was over a month ago. There used to be a forum that posted progress of the v12 (now Torque) engine, but I can't find it since they re-organized the site. I've held off playing with the engine because I want it in a stable state before I do so. What with the lousy economy I'm beginning to have fears that it's never going to happen. I've been burned playing with half finished tools before (GenEdit and it's later incarnation at WildTangent). I want the real thing, complete. I'm willing to wait, but I'd like some indication I'm not waiting in vain.

I think I should mention that the GG guys are hoping that we help them out with the engine. So at least play around with the engine and report bugs. You could argue that you are waiting for a product to arrive but I think that we as a community are going to make this product. How do you think Linux and FreeBSD got so good?

You have a point, Trevor, but as I said, I've been down this road before, with less than satisfactory results. So when GG issued the update of the original release, there were so many caveats about this and that still broken, I put it aside while I dealt with other things. That was months ago. I'm not really complaining (he said), but I would like some reassurance.

I do know how you feel as I am in the same boat, I can't think of a single software tool that I have used, or am using that isn't broken in one fasion or the other. It gets very frustrating.
But I try to keep in mind that *everyone* is in the same boat, as this is the nature of software and the curse of the software consumer/developer. Just look for what has the most support and run with it. The community is going to be the deciding factor, so do your best to contribute and make this product the best it can be.

Unfortunatly there are no reasurances with anything revolving around software. Every software product is pretty much being worked on until it goes into the "has been" pile.I do know how you feel as I am in the same boat, I can't think of a single software tool that I have used, or am using that isn't broken in one fasion or the other. We have been waiting for some features to get finished, such as the new sound driver and the new mission editor, before we release the CD. We would also like to include the demo, but that may not make it. It's taking a while to get all our concept art and 3d shapes made.
As for billing, you have not been charged for the CD, only for the SDK which you have access to online. You will only be charged for the CD when it ships, not before. If you already have your environment setup and are using CVS, then you don't really need the CD as everything will be checked in to CVS. Feel free to cancel the CD at any time, use the trashcan icon on the purchase order page.
As for the features that were crippled from our Tribes 2 removal process, many of those have already been addressed. We continue to work on the rest. When could you ship a game with it? As soon as you can get your game done... there's a lot less work left on the SDK than there would be to put a game together :)

The CD was never meant to be the "official" release of the SDK. The SDK has already been released, and most of you are hopefully using it :) The CD is mainly a compilation of all the tools needed to setup your environment (DX8, VC6 patches, OpenGL drivers, WorldCraft, etc.), and is intended to reduce download times for developers with slow connections. We have been waiting for some features to get finished, such as the new sound driver and the new mission editor, before we release the CD. I find myself fretting about issues like these almost daily. "There's always something better out there!"
If we spent as much time coding and learning the editor as wondering if we're gonna get one-uped by a "competitor" we'd be throwin' each other props on our success stories.
OTHER THINGS YOU BLOW $100.00 ON WITHOUT FRETTING:
1. Last months gasoline
2. Nice night on the town with womenfolk.
3. Couple months of cable.
4. Don't think I don't see that dimebag of willy's
next to your keyboard.
In my opinion, with proper communication and teamwork we could make the torque game engine mow the friggin' grass :) Why couldn't any of the things people ask about (mirrored walls, huge indoor environments, etc..) be added since you have the engine code. If what you want to do is being done in another game, it can be done with torque properly modified. You just might have dig deep. So settle down (i will too :)) and enjoy the opportunity to be a part of it....
Anyone's biggest limitation is their own programming skills, not that of the infamous TGE...

BTW I just realized this has absolutely nothing to do with the c.d. I need a break...

I would also point out that if you spend a $100 on a dime bag of willys you may want to take your "shopping" somewhere else! hahahah
is there some where we can go to get upto date info on what has been changed in the CVS version of the engine?

I would like to have the cd, but i'm not in a hurry, since the test app is so buggy, i've actually been using tribes 2 to ge used the the editor, it's basicly exactly the same! (except no GUI editor)I would also point out that if you spend a $100 on a dime bag of willys you may want to take your "shopping" somewhere else! hahahah

In the root of the CVS project there is a file called changelog.txt that contains a description of each change set. You could just check out that file.--Rick
