Polycount per unit

I want to make my own rts unit. Is there a guide to follow?300 polys per unit=500 units on screen. 600 polys per unit=250 units on screen 900 polys per unit=125 units on screen ect...

Very early on we had Craig Fortune describe his common techniques for RTS-style art, might want to check some of the very first threads in this forum.

There is also a thread showing some fps vs unit count tradeoffs here as well, started by Jeff Voyager.

Finally, I posted somewhere (either in this forum section, or one of my .plans) some images of pretty large formations of units with some fps/metrics output, but it escapes me right now exactly where those screenshots are, sorry.
