Sample Character?

by Josiah Wang · in Artist Corner · 02/05/2005 (12:52 pm) · 5 replies

I was reading Rex's tutorial the other day for gameSpace exporting. Pretty good stuff, except that i realized i'm not even there yet >.< I'm having trouble building the skeleton currently. Can anyone share a sample .scn with a skeleton attached? I would like to analyze it....

or better yet, does anyone have a link to a good puppeteer tutorial? I tried googling it \, but nothing came up...

many many many thanks!

Tell ya what, Josiah, I'll let you see the Source file that contains the rig I built for the example, very much like the VTM's copy, but Rex-stylie, I think I give my fingers an added degree of freedom; and some of my values may differ. In my opinion, rigs are pretty tricky time consuming objects to construct/tweek[didn't find a Buzz copy, did ya?,;)is there one?], and deserve a bit of IP protection. Building the rig in gS is quick, setting it up to a workable level takes a bit more...aaahhhh, werk. I'll not ask for any compensation, though. I'm feeling somewhat generous, since I published the guide while I should have been studying my Journeyman's test in my local union; which I took today and breezed[only 2 hrs later...;)]! Producing the guide was far more interesting than studying material I have 22 years experience in.....ahem, and needing to prove it with a written test. Yahoo! It actually got me thru the last two weeks. I put my all into it.

I don't have any access to an FTP server, to allow this for public access, but I'll contact Alex with a request for some help on this matter. Monday, I'll begin looking into this, as tomorrow is Super Sunday.

Animation in GameSpace is extremely frustrating, I know only too well............I really haven't found any tutorials focusing on this aspect. My progress has been a very slow step by step building....I feel I got fairly good at it, as I'd produced a number of Clips for the character Matt[@Dark Industries] provided assistance with. I'd also had very good results with the rifle weapon, Eric Johnson produced and textured; I took over from my position in the pipeline at that point and began whipping out the state sequences. That was very nice.

...more later

3D Buzz made a pretty good tutorial about using skeletal animation.
Here is the link
http://www.caligari.com/gamespace/tutorial/video.asp

Also if you go in the object library and pick the 'ik' folder you will find a number of example files with characters that have skeletons attached.

...is hopefully a download of a package of items including the ELFrig I built for the elfMesh shape. Let's see if this works.....! It appears I'm a bit more clever than I'd figured...:) Cheers!
