Player Model Questions & More...

I have a model that I want to export to .dts to use as the player model for my game, but I don't know how to assign the animations etc.
I assigned all the values when I exported the model from .ms3d to .dts... Is that enough? Also, how can I mount weapons onto the player? For example: Instead of the crossbow, I would like to mount a sword or axe. And then how would you bind a key to make it change from one to the other? How would you set up how much damage it does?
Lots of questions... Aw well... Not knowin' C++ really sucks : (
