my team and I are going to have a demo of our MMORPG out in late January and since we are using Torque we wondered if we had to publish the demo here even if we only intended to publish the game its self with a traditional publisher???

Your demo can be hosted by your own site. The game must be published here. I hate to say this, but read the EULA.Jeff Tunnell GG

what if we publish it here and then immediately send it off to publishers?

No, you can't do that. GG has exclusive rights for publishing. From the EULA:
Quote:Licensee may not publicly distribute, release, publish and/or transmit any Games created hereunder or otherwise exploit the Software. Licensee must deliver all completed Games, ready for publication, to Licensor for exclusive release and publication through the Website, or through third party distribution channels (subject to separate agreement for payment terms). Licensee may distribute free demos of the Games through third party distribution channels. Free games may be distributed from Licensee's own web site.

The only place you can publish your final game is here. If you have something else in mind like publishing it via some other publishers then GG you can't do this if you are going to use Torque to develop the game. If I were you I would stick with GG guys and let them publish the game, they are doing such a good job why not trust them with your game?

Anyhow, i'll just look into some options for servers and hope the game is good enough to get noticed by GG and for them to send it off to a "real" publisher.

well I don't mind publishing here except that my game is an MMORPG and getting money to run servers is going to be tough.Anyhow, i'll just look into some options for servers and hope the game is good enough to get noticed by GG and for them to send it off to a "real" publisher.

Now that's the spirit, I am sure that if your game is fun and your game is cool to play it will be successfull, and publishing it here on GG won't be a dissadvantge but rather an advantage to not only you but all of us. Let's say I make a cool game and get it published by GG, your friend makes a cool game and also get's it published only here on GG. Now all of the sudden all those people that are looking to play some fun and cool games are comming to this place since it's place to be and you and your friend and I and my friends etc. all benift. You get the idea :)

If your game is good enough it could go to box sales through another publisher but your game is going to have to prove itself first.

GarageGames is a real publisher. They just publish games to the net rather then box publishing. Which, by the way, is much better for you in terms of revenue as you get a much higher percentage of the game price. You should also note that if your MMORPG is going to be subscription based your going to have to work out a seperate agreement with GarageGames. If your game is good enough it could go to box sales through another publisher but your game is going to have to prove itself first.

will GG provide server space if they take a cut from the monthly subscription fee?

There are too many variable in a subscription based game to include it in our EULA. If you search the forums, there are many speculations about subscription games. If you have a good team that actually has a shot at getting a game completed, and have a good plan for how to make it work, then email me, and we will discuss the particulars.Jeff Tunnell GG
