Hello everybody
i've got a new project from my Writing for Games Class. So i've got an informal poll going here. When I think about a new game idea that I would like to develop, I think about games that i myself would like to play. And if they're not out there already i know i've got a product that I can make. Soooo along those lines... My target demo is the standard males ages 17-30 so what kinda games would you like to see out there that aren't out there already. (no half life 2 ideas... Half life 3 maybe)

Ever hear of those "mystery dinner parties"? It's where people buy a ticket to an interactive play, where most people are just like them, with a couple of actors sprinkled in. In the begining, you get your part and play it, and the same goes for the others (think something like Clue). What I'd like to do is come up with something like that for people, where they buy an e-ticket to participate in one of these things online with a group of friends or whatnot, and there would be some AI in there as well for filler characters, and they could play their parts for a couple hours and have a good time.
Of course, there's a lot of technology that needs to be improved to get to that point, but that's my idea...

@Marvin: You don't know what you don't know, but I'll give it a shot anyway...Ever hear of those "mystery dinner parties"? >.< doh didn't read the orig post clearly enough for the target audience. Since i'm not that old yet...I'm guessing something of the fps genre would be nice. Maybe a blend of the fps/rts would be cool too (like Natural Selection), but my recommendation is to not make it too complicated. Add enough features so that it's fun, but don't over do it. I know that if i just graduated/is still in college, I would want to play somethign quick, simple, btu still a lil new.
As for something specific, multiplayer seems to be the most *fun* type. In that case, don't go for single-player exclusive. I guess a CTF type game with more advanced things like different weapons that allow you to knock the flag from the carrier, or possibly in a steal-the-bacon type game that allows you to take the flag. Bots are probably a good thing to have. As a *noobish* cs-goer myself, I rely on bots to train...
wow after reading this post, i'm not sure if i just confused you more...so unorganized >.<

Blobs. Definately blobs. They're so squishy and fun and huggable and stuff. You could probably do a sims/tomagotchi type thing (more focus on tomagotchi, although make them age a tad bit slower...). You can play mini-games with it, go fishing with it, shoot some hoops with it, etc...[edit]

Actually, when I think of games with stories I usually think of RPG's, adventure gmes and interactive fiction. I didn't play Alien Hominid for its story. I don't usually debate the quality of Devil May Cry's story. Resident Evil 4 is weaker in the story section than previous RE's, but it's easily my favorite of the series. And even the "good" stories in most games aren't that great or creative. I used to really enjoy RPGs, but I can't say that most of them have that great of a story. Perhaps that's the reason I've been enoying games in the Shin Megami tensei series or the newest Wizardry's for Japanese consoles more than the heavy story-oriented RPg's like Tales of Symphonia, Grandia 2, Final Fantasy X, Star Ocean 3 and Suikoden IV (though Suikoden's strength is more in the terms of the characters individual stories rather than the overall plot). I have enjoyed stories in adventure games such as the Broken Sword series, though. They seem to be a bit better crafted, IMO. When all you have is puzzles and item shuffling, I guess you need to have a strong story. Well, no, I've played some really bad adventure games.
Okay, enough brain dumping from me.

You're a lonely line looking to make a connection. But there are hazards. There are nasty polygonal shapes that are getting in your way. You need to alter your shape to get through a wide variety of situations. Then, as you make connections, your shape will change and you'll have to reorient yourself to your surroundings. Sometimes the polygonals will break off pieces of you and make you loose your connections.Actually, when I think of games with stories I usually think of RPG's, adventure gmes and interactive fiction. Everytime you suffer a hit one of your bubble wraps pop.
If you fall of a ledge too far you pop one of your bubbles. In fact your weapons can be bubbles that your throw, thus slowly losing a part of yourself.

bubble wrap thats actually cool. hey i got a title. no one can stop mr bubble. i'd get sued by the makers of mr bubble and NO one can stop mr domino.
maybe the game starts with the bubble wrap being tossed out after his family moves.

suffers little damage when it hits the ground,
unless it's wrapped around something.
maybe the game could start off w/ you wrapped around
like a brick or something, and you keep popping bubbles
because of it so you're first challenge is to get the darned brick out of you.
this is kind of rich..
your arch nemesises (nemesi?) are like 9-year olds..

In Manic Mode:
196 bubbles popped in 17.6 seconds at 11.14 bubbles per second
Out of Manic Mode:
196 bubbles popped in... Sorry, I can't remember. 2.01 bubbles per second, though.

One thing I want more than anything is a game where you can do anything, GTA3 but where all the missions or optional. Basically it would be real life, cop, thug, business man, hobo, anything and everything in the real world, no limits. Two other ideal games would be an virtual machine shop thing where you would build the items used in the game and a mmofps war sim that was as fun as planetside but has the depth of a true war sim.
