Nemesis Vortex- update

Thanks to Stephen Zepp and his team we got a chance to work on some really low poly units for his project. If you care to take a look- here they are. Buildings were displayed before I believe but characters are something new.

Great stuff, i love the challenge of low poly stuff. i was very much into quake1 skinning back in the day. :)
very nice!

It's a matter of choice really- these particular units are going to be used in RTS mode so there will be a lot of them in field of view- that's main reason for low polycount (it counts for each unit separately) and relatively big texture (it is being loaded only once, no matter how many units will be there).

Those buildings are wonderful - are they difs?

Actually no, they are .dts, modelled in Maya and then exported to .dts.

Marcin did a simply wonderful job with them, against some really difficult requirements--for example, collision is pretty detailed, and there are even raised alcoves inside that can also be walked upon.

The reason for them being .dts instead of .dif is because they need to be dynamically modifiable in runtime, and also be able to deal with self-modification due to players performing building actions that may change existing buildings as well.

Ironically, this was one of our very first prototype art contracts we outsourced to Marcin, and the more we learn about engine complications and .dts shapes, the more amazing the work he did is--for instance, I have NO idea how he overcame the collision hull limits for .dts shapes, yet still made things like the construction crossbeams collidable.

That is exactly the workflow I am intersted in.... I would be intersted in how he overcame collision limits...

Thank you very much Stephen- you are too kind to me. I just did work I've been hired for - once again thanks for considering me as your partner.
