Why are my interiors not dark?

Hi i have been playing out qith quark for a little while now and i am pleased with my modelling results. Curently i am making a cave, of which i wish to be almost black inside - except for me using lights to light as i see fit - however, i have been doing some tests - and even i f i make a test building of a completely enclosed box, inside the building is still quite light - is it not possible to have the inside almost black?

I have searched extensively on the forumns here and even checked out the quark website -but i cant seem to find anything

There -is- something, I just forgot what, that lets you block out all exterior lighting effects from the inside of the interiors.

Does anyone have any more details on this?

There is something about this problem on the site - I remember reading about it a looooooooong time ago. I dont remember where it was or what the solution was but I *think* it said something about any little leak your interior has to the outside will cause the inside to be lit by the engine. Don't quote me on that though, it might have been the opposite i.e. the lack of lighting.

Thats why you use portals Stevie.
But you must close every opening to the outside world and all portals must have ambient_light = dont pass through.

Just wondering, what is the exact process for a portal in worldcraft?

@Stevie
Portal outside ?
Portals must be placed in all openings .
Othervise the outside light get through.
Make a simple room with one opening , place the portal in the opening.
Dont let the ambient light pass .
Do this as a first test before you try on complex buildings.

@Jacob
In worldcraft you place a brush in a opening , choose the brush
Goto meny tools , choose Tie to entity. or press shortcut key Ctrl+T .
Choose the ambient light how it shall behave ,close the entity window.
Now you have a portal.

Here is a test box so you can look click here

Cheers Billy - i sorted the problem. I realised that the portal object had to fit the opening in terms of depth and size the same as the wall the opening is in. It now works great.

Thanks for everybodys help
