Original football game idea.

Ok this is my "big idea" for an original football game to get around EA's greedy evil plans. I still believe NO idea will ever be able to compete but maybe it can draw a crowd of it's own.

Alright, say we have a football game to where you select a player position like in an MMORPG at the beginning of the game. You ARE this player for as long as you own the game. You can either form a team of friends with your own custom logo and colors for tournaments. Or you can play pick up games and form random teams on the spot for a quick game. Through playing with others online you build your stats, like speed, agility, catching ability, fumble, passing accuracy and so forth.

When choosing your character after installation of the game, you must choose which position suits your style best. Running backs will start off with more speed, lower fumble ratings, but will have very low passing ability. Quarterbacks will start off with higher pass accuracy, maybe a little bit of dodge or running ability, but higher fumble ratings. Since at the beginning of the game you chose your position, your character can never become the jack of all trades and master of all. A defensive lineman, though he can become very good, will never be able to reach passing nirvana the same way a quarterback can. A quarterback will never be able to catch like Randy Moss but that doesn't mean he can't become very good if you build that stat up. I was also thinking about secondary abilities like in Final Fantasy XI. You could be a quarterback with the secondary abilities of runningback like Micheal Vick, giving you slightly higher stats in that secondary position. Also, stats that do not align with your position build more slowly. And your player model will gain muscle when you build up his hitting ability and then lose it and become slimmer when you build up his speed. Also, stats slowly degrade when not used often.

So basically the game will play like a real game in real life. If Bob is quarterback he will hike the ball and pass it to Josh who will have to run his route, make the catch, and try to avoid getting hit. Say Tim is playing DB and intercepts the pass and runs all the way back to the line of scrimmage, it's now up to Bob and who ever is around to tackle Tim but since Bob is a quarterback, unless he has practiced at hitting, won't make too much of an impact. Also NPC's will be allowed but not at prime positions (QB, RB, RCV). There must be at least 5 players on one team. Or the game could be 5 on 5 like NFL Street with no option for NPC's.

I have no plans to create anything like this any time soon, but it's just an idea. What do you guys think? Maybe if we can get enough support it could happen. But I honestly don't know how realistic this would be for an indie.

A massively multiplayer online football game would probably do the trick! People love their fantasy football leagues ... if anything could compete with people getting to play as their favorite real life teams and players it'd be getting to play the game with themselves and their own made up team and even stadium.

It could be done by indies ... just need a large enough dedicated team. If the game is set up to be quite dynamic (players use one football player model unless they mod the game and football stadium etc...) then I think it could be done. If I'm not mistaken their are already some cool indie football games.

At least if an indie doesn't make it some other company might be able to compete in this manner.

I like the idea.I really think it would sell too, but probably more so in the PC market. As far as abilities go, I would give everyone the same set of stats, all at an equally low value. At character creation you would get a number of points that could be used to improve abilities. The abilities that are pertinent to your position cost least, common abilities (stamina, injury) cost more, and abilities you don't need at all (kicking power for a quarterback) coat th most. As you prgoress through your career, you will get more points to imrpove your abilities. Also, I don't think this needs to be done as a MMOG, but that is an interesting concept.

See Ajari, we can agree on something.

I love your idea. I know im 2 years too late but i chouldnt resist answer anyway.
I have a smimilar idea but with soccer instead. The difference is that you will controll so mutch of the game that you dont have any advanages over the others. its all up to you how good you become(like rela world).
You can like in your idea join or create an own team. The idea is that its many divisions and your team become higher upp if your better and lower if you worse (ofcorse). like an ladder with other words.
you can also beside the league play tournaments and friendly matches.

I was thinking maybe the teams chould sell and buy players also. and depending on how good the team are and how entertaining(how many goals?) they get more money from the audience(digital audience).
