Okay... So I'm a new user yeah and it's clear that I don't know how to build levels, or receive them from other users, and changing the music. I have looked at the "Read Me" document but I did not really understand it. Please help me out! Just email me or whatever you can do just to contact me. Thank you!!!!
P.S. I am currently using an iMac G5. Does that make any effect on making levels?

Hey kaT, welcome to the forums.

It is not so much building a level, it is more editing a level.
To get to the ingame level editor, do these following steps.

1) Start up a level that you wish to edit.

2) Type ~ to get a white status window.

3) Type

$testcheats = 1;

4) and press return.

5) Type F11 to bring up the level editor.

It's quite a complicated level editor but you get used to it.

There are two camera angles to work with, overhead view, as played in the game,
and free-look view. Change your camera angle to free look view to start editing!!!

Basically there are four modes in which to edit, accessed via F1, F2, F3 & F4 keys.
You'll really only need to use F3 & F4.
F4 is a warehouse where you find all your building blocks with which to construct.
F3 is a box where you set the positions, angles and dimensions etc of these parts.

An important thing is not to save your level so it overwrites an existing mbg level,
but save as to create a copy of the level to edit.

Press ESC any time to get rid of the editor. To re-enter the editor again,
do steps 2) and 3) and press F11 straight away to save you typing all that again!
To set the level picture to be shown in the level selector change to free-look view,
and press ESC to get rid of the editor. Then, you press Ctrl-L to take your picture.
To set the other specs for your level,

1) Quit to finder

2) Ctrl-click the Marble Blast Gold application, and select Show Package Contents.

3) Go through to the marble/data/missions/custom (or wherever your mis file is)

4) Locate your mis file and open it with TextEdit, or any other writing application.

5) Set:

name = The name of the level.
desc = The level description which is shown under the level name in the selector.
type = Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced/Custom collections.
level = Value - the order in which the level is in the collection.
time = Value (seconds x 1000) needed to qualify the level.
goldTime = Value (seconds x 1000) needed to beat the gold time if there is one.
startHelpText = The message that comes up at the start of the level.
artist = Your name.

Browse around the message board and feel free to ask some qs on Level Building.
This is a very nice, helpful community...Solo Hans has left some more hints here:

Once you've finished your level - send it to alexs@garagegames.com,
or post a link. Good luck, Hope this helps.

Rory

PS - If you use a mac, you cannot create your own interiors or moving platforms,
because the technology only exists for windows.

We are also new to this... we have tried typing ~ and $testcheats = 1; and f11 and have gotten nothing!! We are on a mac mini. Is there a different key to press?

We are using a logitech keyboard that was previously for our pc...not sure if the keys are mapped the same.

Thanks,
Aidan and his mom! :)

Ctrl-F10 replaces the ~ key for the macs with bundled MB

You can simply push f10. It should work =)

I am also new.

I believe I understand what file you want me to click on. In this case, the "newMission" you download at the dowload site. I do that. It comes up with an error, basically saying "Microsoft Word cannot load the Microsoft Office shared libraries" then it tells me suggestions. One is move word someplace, which I did. Another is reinstall word. I decided to ignore it. I did everything everyone suggested. It doesn't work.

Is this a problem with the file, the game, or my Mac?

BTW, I tried trashing the old version and downloading a new one. It still doesn't work...

You operating system is telling that it doesn't know what program to open newMission.mis with. I have suggestion, but I don't know if it'll work. Try changing the extension to newMission.doc and see if Microsoft Word will open it then. If it doesn open, you should be able to edit it and make changes that will show up in you new level. Just remember to change the file back to the .mis extension, so it'll work in MarbleBlast. Good luck and hope that works.

To use the newMission.mis thing (you don't need to change the extension) just go to your marbleblast icon and click show package contents, next choose folders=
>Marble
>Data
>Missions
>Custom

Put newMission.mis in the custom folder. When you play marble blast, in the custom level section, you should see the newMission level. Play that level and do the ~ thing. From there, you can customize the newMisson level.

It's been said before, terrain isn't supported in MBG. In other words, it's not supposed to work.

By the way, if you want to create a new post, there is a link at the bottom of each page that says "Submit new topic".

Ahem.

Please read the Official MarbleBlast Level Building topic and reply to it with your problem.

Otherwise, post a new topic stating your problem and what you did for it to happen.

For the love of God, don't bump old posts.

What does bumped mean anyway
#16
08/14/2006 (2:18 pm)
It has several meanings. In our case it means to 'bring up back' or 'to relive'. When you bump an old topic (not a current discussion), people would usually be angry at you since that topic's time had passed.
