Concept art/models

by Nate "Nateholio" Watson · in Artist Corner · 01/04/2005 (7:29 pm) · 4 replies

A couple days worth of crap Ive been working on.

This is just a continuation of this thread. I didnt want to keep posting in the general forum and bring the wrath of Forum Nazis like myself - 'No forum for you!'

Lemme know what you think. Thanks.

As concepts, they not bad at all. A few thoughts on them, just as constructive criticism:

1) The Chopper looks nice, but has a bit of "junk" in it's "trunk", if you know what I mean ;) I think the rear of the body should taper a bit, for aerodynamics, or, you could go the other direction and make it a little wider in the back for stylistic purposes.

2) Good concept, though the MAV looks a little blocky/plain. There's probably a few stylistic things to bring some more emotion into it, but the thing that jumped out at me was the midsection having very flat sides. Being armor, they probably want to have angled armor like tanks and APC's do, to deflect rounds since they can't dodge them.

3) A little flat in the front, but otherwise it looks like a nice concept.

4) Nice concept, but you have a "boxy front" streak going on... Tapers nice to the front, but the front itself is kinda blunt. But that could be just me, I still like it.

Good stuff :)

Robert, post Gamespace questions to the very helpful DTS exporter: Gamespace forum.

And just check out the Torque for Artists section for exporters and other resources. It contains a link for the

Gamespace exporter

@Ted - thanks for the opinion on the gunship, I thought the tailboom looked a little funky myself, but wanted more thoughts on it. I'll work for a more aerodynamic tail, as my project isnt looking to be stylistic - Robotech and other 'stylistic' war genres really get on my nerves for some reason.

As for the 'Mav and APC, theyre both not really concerned with ballistic weapons because energy weapons are used more than ballistic/missile weapons in this project (even though the 'Mav mounts two of the most powerful ballistic weapons in the game). Add to that that the SRM carrier is designed to be used in cities or behind cover, and angled armor for this particular design is really irrelavent. I will take your advice on the 'Mav though and come up with a better looking design for it.

I was expecting a Trekkie to see the spacecraft and ask why it wasnt all smooth and aerodynamic, and if the boxy front detached from the cylindrical rear.

I noticed my boxy front tendencies now that you said something about it and thanks for mentioning it. Ill try to fix that as I make more models in MS3D using my paper concept drawings.

Thanks again for your comments.
