Large vs Small and how to deal with time scale....

I have an idea just to play around with the thought....
A mech / foot soldier game.
Can get into or out of huge mechs.
I was thinking of catch the flag or hack the base type game play
like planetside. But I am am having trouble with the size and time
scale. As a player you must be able to get in these huge 80 foot
mechs that travel pretty fast...about 20 mph. But I cant figure out
how to make it appear that they are travleing slowly to the player
inside. The foot soldiers would see mechs as huge lumbering beast
that move past them very fast, but the speed would be the same
for a player in or out of a mech. The only thing i can think of is to
have two maps, one for the mechs and one for the foot soldiers.
The reason for the problem is this:
I think the lag would be be to much for any computer to endure
becuase of these huge geometries running around (the mechs).
Its confusing but I hope someone can help me out with this dilema.
Thanks for any input - Steve

of rendering on the engines part would lag the whole game. So I figured
If you can some how slow down the mechs it would enable normal game
play.

scale of the hercs is quite huge:
Scale shot 1
Scale shot 2
Scale shot 3

I doubt speed would have much effect on rendering performance; its still drawing the same amount of polys, textures, etc each frame.scale of the hercs is quite huge:
Scale shot 1
Scale shot 2
Scale shot 3

You would have to contract Trajan to find out (he's in charge) if you click on his name in the forums, you can send him a pm and ask him.
