Why have change team functionality?

Something that was kind of annoying tonight--people kept changing teams to the "winning" team, making the net gameplay worthless. Is there a specific reason for the ability of a player to change team? I would guess to let them play with their friends possibly, but IMO it's being washed out by the "winners get all" mentality lately :)

It doesn't really matter at the moment, as there are not enough registered players playing to cause it to track statistics.

Except that it makes games completely worthless to play :) Why sit around with 9 blue guys and 1 red guy in a game?

Oh, I thought you meant players were switching over at the last moment to show up on the winning team when the game ended.
