IEmulator [QuArK et al on the cheap]

by Heath Rezabek · in Torque Game Engine · 12/11/2004 (7:07 am) · 3 replies

A heads up. just heard news of a small-developer OS X native PC emulator for $23.95 which claims to run as fast as the curent5 VPC. at that price, i think i can afford to give it a whirl. i'm desperate to get QuArK running and i can just use my ancient Win95 cd that shipped with VPC v4 [the last one i owned and last one i want to pay for!]

so, i'll post my experience here; anyone else, feel free to join the fun. :)

Hm, realized that of course i need a copy of WinWhatever of my own to run on it, which i don't have, so the price of that brings it all up to around the price of the normal VPC. ah well. maybe another of you will have better luck.

IEmulator is just a prettied-up Qemu, which is open source. Save your $25 and download the original. You might also try Bochs.

However, neither one is going to be as fast as VirtualPC. (User reports of iEmulator bear this out.) You might look around for a used copy of the VPC 6 + Win2kPro bundle.

After doing all the math, i did indeed end up just buying VPC. now i can finally use QuArK. *sigh* :)
