RTS Kit: Code modifications?

by Josiah Wang · in Torque Game Engine · 12/08/2004 (10:00 am) · 6 replies

I'm most likely going to buy the RTS Starter Kit, but before I buy it, I wanna get a few things cleared up first...

-My computer (laptop) has 1.5 ghz and ~400MB RAM - will I be able to run this? (I'm asking this because I remember trying run the TSE as well as the Synapse Lighting Pack demo before, both of which I only saw a background...do I need to do something?)

-Will the RTS Starter Kit require extensive changes to the code, or is it like the starter.fps or starter.racing, where it's only a folder?

Thanks!

Your computer will run fine, it is a demo unto itself. The data files are in starter.RTS There is no FPS or racing mod with it.

So once i get the RTS pack, all I need to do is basically plug in and play, no need to recompile?

I currently have a Win 98 SE (SP2) box with a 1.4G cpu and 400-ish memory as well, and the RTS kit works fine.

The RTS Kit is actually a full installer of the TGE 1.3 source code, but has replaced starter.FPS, starter.whatever_else with starter.RTS. You can play it right off the bat using the included demo executable, or set up your compile/build environment and make clean, make and go from there.

Hi Josiah,

That's the first I've heard of the Lighting Pack demo not working and I'd really like to see what's happening. Would you mind running the demo again and then post the 'console.log' file it generates?

Thanks!

@John hrmm the download link leads to the 1.3 one (which works - one word: wow!)

I think I have an older version archived somewhere, i'll try to see if i can find it

That's cool, I'm glad it's working now, but thanks for looking into it!
