Paratrooper - New Pics

Here's some screen snaps of the engine and characters. Almost there... I'm taking the public demo (out soon after) to the Australian Games Dev Conference in Melbourne Australia Dec 2-4, to show people what I've been up to... crossing my fingers and toes...

Hey Andy,

Looking good so far - Just a couple of crits on the player models

the male looks a little pale like he needs some more colour in his skin.

and the female looks like she has a major stubble going on (not sure if its the image compresion or what) also some bad stretching there on the rig :/

environments look good though :)

hey where abouts in Aust. are you? im in adelaide

Great screens! Just so you know, these would probably be better in one of the many artist forums (like the showoff area).

Looks good!

Reminds me of FarCry somehow.

Note to both Josh and Will.

Erm... she's a he man!!! Sorry about that - I guess the bandana and skinny arms loses his masculinity.

I will recolour the skin of the main guy and buffy up the other merc - thanks for the comments.

And yes - Far Cry is my inspiration - but it's going to be a survivor horror game as well (aren't they all????)

I live in Perth by the way.

How can I easily transfer this thread over to artist / showoff area?

Thanks guys.

Thanks man!. We are now working on a demo which hopefully will be ready by the end of January. Expect lots of bug blasting, merc smashing action.

Always a shame to see work stop on a game.

PARATROOPER IS TO BE SHELVED INDEFINITELY - WORKING ON SOMETHING MUCH MORE ORIGINAL

Futher to recent discussions about the demo of Paratrooper:Small World, I
will not be releasing it in its current form. I have decided to rebrand
the product and therefore need to change the content in a major way. This
means the demo will not be released for some time now.

This decision was made due the glut of WW2 style shooters on the market. I
believe the rebranding ( and content redesign ) will turn the product into a
fresh game that attempts to provide something new to the already overloaded
FPS market.

Also it was being confused with WW2 shooters too much and the game is really a sci-fi
action game, with contemporary weaponry.

The rebranding is not just changing titles, textures, models and text, I am rethinking the
whole game and focusing on different aspects of the gameplay. I will still use the GeoDyne
engine I've created but I want to make more of an action movie style sci-fi game.

Unfortunately there are expections with the FPS genre that I may have to conform to but
I'm going to try and make the content and design less of what is expected in these games.
Which may make it a risk, but I gotta try this.

I look forward to presenting you with upates on the game's progress as the year
progresses.
