How the devil do you make a bloody character?!

I am absolutely new to the whole Tribes2 scene. I have no idea how to make a model that works with the Torque engine. I've looked all over for tutorials on how to make models that will work in the engine, but I want a total hand-holding-newbie tutorial on how to make a character for the Torque or Tribes2 engine. I just finished reading "Teach Yourself 3D Studio MAX 3 in 24 hours" and I think have enough knowledge to make a model, but I have no idea what dummy characters to include, what to name them, where to place them, etc.

And along those lines, do i have to use a single mesh, or can I make a couple meshes and link them together? Where do I put the textures?

How the flunk do I do animations that work in the Torque engine? where do I get these special 'dummy' characters for the max2dts exporter?

What do I have to put in the script files for the character? What settings (max ammo, animations, health, etc.) do I need?

I need a very good tutorial. I don't know what to do with this! I can make a static object in MAX, but I want to get past static boxes and make some characters. Is there one good tutorial that I can follow to learn this?

Jeff a few things:

First, check the "RESOURCES" link on the right hand side of the screen and do some searches on topics (say "3D" and "Exporting") and you will find quite a few links regarding your questions on how to do RT3D for Torque.

Second, and this is a pet peeve of mine, I recommend that you learn more about your software. A program like 3DS Max (or any 3D software) isn't something that you can find on the internet one day, buy a book, and teach yourself how to use it to produce the work that you want. It takes a long time to just become "average" in the software. So take your time, do more tutorials, read more books, and get more practice in before you drive head first into the world of RT3D graphics.

Third, if you haven't started to learn Photoshop and how to use Photoshop to texture your models effectively, go learn it. It is a skill you will need if you want to succeed.

Those are my tips, I am not trying to be cruel to you, I am just giving you my honest opinion and suggestions that you will enjoy the area the interests you.

Another quick question. Do you need to use character studio to make characters? It seems like every tutorial I find refers to a Biped model.

Thanks

No, Biped is not required to make character models.
