K, I need to know how to send a 3d file from a PC, to a mac.
Ive tried:
3ds
DXF
Obj.
and so far,- all that has acutually made a clean transfer has been the 3ds, however, my 3d programs dont recognized the files.
HELP!

If these programs support these formats then it should work.
dxf works for just about everything. I have never had a problem getting a dxf or obj out of max to work in anything else I have tried.
dxf will give you the mesh only. obj is a little better as it will keep UVs intact but it can be flakey.
It would be helpful if you could be more specific if you could specify what you mean by a 'clean' transfer.
Most of these exchange formats only support certain basic information.
If the dxf is coming over poorly, it is usually a problem with the original model (holes in the mesh, double faces/edges, stray vertices, etc...)
Why are you doing this, if you don't mind me asking?
Why would you want to go from MAX to Infini-D or painter 3d??

.dxf and .obj aren't workng for you? If these programs support these formats then it should work.

I do Textures, thats what I do. Ive always made textures for all of my models, scenes etc. I have just recently crossed over into the game world and the fact the I have a MAC<----this is my problem, I know what a DXF, and and OBJ are. I'm not a moron.
A game company is trying to send me their models so I can texture them up. There sending me PC, DXF etc. and I'm trying to open them on a MAC, through painter 3d.
I guess what I'm asking, is there any kind of 3ds(PC) to 3ds (mac) file converters?
or does any one know of any techniques of opening them. And dont give me that crap the DXF is a universal file. Just like Gif images, there is both a PC, an a mac file type...
HELP!

Sorry pal whish i could help you but like Joe said all i know of is that DXF or OBJ are simular for both MAC and PC and if your program suports them you should be able to import them.. Than again never owned a MAC so i couldn't tell for sure.

It works on my machines. I have never had a problem going between machines with these files formats. There are many 'flavors' of dxf, but it is not a Mac/PC thing. I am not saying it is a universal file format, it is not.
There are a few converters to help with file format exchange, but they are not cheap. Lambsoft makes one called Movetools, and there is one called Polytrans. I have not used either, so I can't give and recommendations as to whether they are worth the money.
You can also search the web, just put DXF in the search window in any search engine.
If you send me the file I can take a look and help you get a format that you can read. Is it coming through at all? You are saying that you are not able to open anything?
I am sorry if my questions insulted you. The problems you are having and the questions you are asking are very basic in nature. I assumed that you were a beginner and was honestly trying to be helpful.
It might be a good thing if you educated yourself on these file formats.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
