Editor camera movement problems

by Stephen Zepp · in RTS Starter Kit · 11/11/2004 (1:43 pm) · 3 replies

This is a breakout of a specific topic mentioned by James Dunmow:
Quote:World Editor Camera: Can zoom/pitch camera but that's it. Maybe I'm missing something but I can't move around in the editor at all.

He's absolutely right--there is currently no way at all to use the "standard" camera movement functionality in any of the editor modes. Specifically, in 1.3 you rotate your viewing area by right click dragging with the mouse.

Having had this problem before myself (prior to RTS Pack), it looks like you don't fully mode switch when shifting to the editor for mouse input, and/or the wrong control is catching the mouse input.

Unfortunately, it makes the editors all but unsuable.

Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn't say this makes the editors unusable at all, you just have to switch in and out of editor mode (hit f11) to move the camera around as-is. Also, you can use the arrow keys to move around in the editor. We'll try to get a solution that kicks you back into normal mouse control when in the editor soon, but this was one of those things we didn't quite have time to address, and it's not a show-stopper since you can just switch back w/ f11 or use the arrow keys to move around.

But I agree, it'd be better to have it behave as normal. :)

@Josh: As the self-appointed RTSPack head fanboi, I'm not dogging you guys at all! Basically just reporting areas that could use further work. Hell, You could even more simply workaround it by using the stock 1.3 for all your terrain editing, etc., and just use the mission editor with the RTS executable :)

The product is simply amazing. It's been WELL worth the wait!
