Dallas is full of game developers. You may also wish to try contacting some of the people from SMU's Guildhall. I think they do some TGE, but I might be mistaken.

We are about to be listed with the official Austin Game Developers list, along side Microsoft, Retro Studios, Midway, and a lot of others. The guy that coordinates it all just e-mailed me today!

@Blake - We haven't yet talked to our local IGDA chapter to list us, but we will be soon. It's probably a great way to attract a little contract work within the local community.

@Tom - I agree, we have had a few little side jobs already from a new company that branched from Acclaim and some smaller little companies. Now we hope to get some recognition from the local gaming crowd. What are some developers in Dallas? I've heard of quite a few, just can't remember them by name.

Well the Dallas developers i can remember off the top of my head:

Id Software
3DRealms
Ensemble Studios
Ritual Entertainment
Gearbox Software
Paradigm Entertainment
Terminal Reality
TKO Software
Mumbo Jumbo
Klear
UD Games

I'm sure there are others (and us), but as you can see Dallas has alot of fairly high profile game developers.

Ya! Can't belive I didn't remember id! They are from the Mesquite area of Dallas right? Dallas is big for games, but I still think Austin is the 3rd largest hub of game development activity in the United States...Beat that :P j/k.

Isn't a division of blizzard located in Texas? Or was that Arizona?

I really don't know anything about Devry, except I see commercials about them on TV :P What's the degree plan you are doing there? In Texas, the most places I hear about for game and 3D education are: Art Institute (Houston, and I think Dallas) , University of North Texas (Denton), and Austin Community College. We had some people apply to us from ITT and their stuff was not good. From what it seems to me, most game companies look at education as secondary, while the talent and experience is what they generally look for first off. Of course, I am mainly talking about art, but I am sure it applies to other postitions as well, maybe not programming as much though.

We only have 2 local fulltimers here in Austin, the rest are spread throughout the world mostly in Ireland cause we are part of Star Cave Studios now.
