Novalogic's - Joint Operations sure looks like Torque to me

Looks like Torque. The file structure looks just like a compiled torque project. They must of used the
commercial license. At any rate I think it's a good game.
This is just a curious guess than anything.

Or what a REAL good torque FPS game could be.

I could be wrong. But when I play the demo it just feels like a modified Torque.Or what a REAL good torque FPS game could be.

We have not sold Torque to Novalogic. Links to pics?

I remember playing the demo awhile back when it first came out and the netcode was atrocious, although I'm sure it got better, the demo was pretty much unplayable on a cable modem.

Hey Jeff just out of curiosity do you know of any "big" developers that have licensed TGE/TSE? I understand if you can't name names. Just curious. Coz

When I first ran it was I thought it was torque. Could be wrong of course it was more of a guess than anything.
Maybe it would be more accurate to say "it reminds me of torque in some ways".

I think Novalogic owns the patent for Voxel technology. It would make sense that they used their own Voxel technology to render terrain, which looks similar to Torque in some ways because of texture blending, but Torque is Polygon-based with LOD.

I swear that compass is like he copied a GG compass resource and pasted it in lol.

Well to put a positive spin on it I said to myself "Man my torque game could be as good as this".I swear that compass is like he copied a GG compass resource and pasted it in lol.

Novalogic has been developing their own engine for years, its very pretty, I have played every game they have made since Delta Force.

Joint Operations is based off the Delta Force engine, which is novalogics own. I believe its just continuation of its development since Delta Force black hawk down. If im correct this engine was new at Delta Force 2, DF1 used a voxel based engine instead.

Well, I STILL think your Torque game could easily be as good as that (well, not necessarily *easy*... a lot of work is required). But it is certainly possible to achieve that level and surpass it. Especially with TSE.

I was unimpressed with JO when I was in their beta test for it. Same game over and over for the past 6-7 years. I loved DF1, so believe me, I wanted them to succeed. DF2 was nothing more than a sniper sim and I ended up returning DF3. Cookie-cutter approach to gameplay and feel; and the most horrid AI. The expansions were a joke and I saw nothing in DF:BHD and JO to warrant me purchasing their 'product' again.
*edit* - just saw all the posts after I had wrote this up. DF2 was using their Voxel engine (primarily for tall grass rendering). DF3 was the jump to the standard 3D engine.

It uses their inhouse engine originally developed for Comanche 4 in 2001 (thank God they finally ditched the Voxel engine). They updated it for DF: Black Hawk Down and then updated it again for Joint Ops. I was unimpressed with JO when I was in their beta test for it. Same game over and over for the past 6-7 years. Also, they started having something like an AI in DF-BHD, everything before that was 100% pre-waypointed and implemented using a myrad of triggers and conditions. DF3 actually used a blend of voxel and triangle-rendering, and achieved pretty good visuals and far viewing ranges for it's time. As for Joint Ops, their vehicles are rather crude, but get the job done essentially. IMO it's the best games of the series.
...but it's certainly not using Torque at all.

JO itself is quite fun, but Timothy is right when he says they're not using the Torque Network Layer. Their netcode has improved marginally, but it's still way behind everything on this site. At least they now have a server browser that deserves to be called that. Also, they started having something like an AI in DF-BHD, everything before that was 100% pre-waypointed and implemented using a myrad of triggers and conditions.
