TSE is TGE with completely new render code to allow for advanced engine effects previously available only in much higher priced engines. The component model of TGE is still in place. But the renderer is on steroids.

Torque2 does not exist. If you had a chance to check out IGC then you would know that GG is all about making sure you are happy with what you got. The much antisipated component system is going into TGE and any new work is going to be incorperated into TGE. TSE is not Torque 2. It is a graphic layer change.
TGE is in very active development and will continue that way for a long time. There are some very exciting changes coming and I am sure that everybody will be happy to see them.
TSE and TGE code base is going to say as close as possible so that you will be able to port your game over relatively easily. When it comes down to it, GG wants games and good ones. They are providing the tools, and the tools are just getting better. So work on the games.
TGE is still the current tech and TSE is an extention to that tech. GG is making a nice upgrade path for you. You can start your game on TGE and upgrade if you are wanting the Next Gen Shaders. Or you can do what I am doing and starting your game now on TSE. Its all about your commitment to your game and making a nice path for you to follow.
