I currently have Windows 2000 and am trying to decide what to upgrade to.
Do you reccomend XP, ME, or staying with 2000?

I often found myself browsing 10 pages (gg resources and whatnot) and one of them crashed because of something, the others went down as well.
Got XP pro now and I'm very happy.

ME is the evil. Crashes everywhere and Internet Explorer seems integrated in every menu and whatever you can find which makes it very limited.I often found myself browsing 10 pages (gg resources and whatnot) and one of them crashed because of something, the others went down as well.
Got XP pro now and I'm very happy.

I have Windows 2000 Pro.
I am unable to get XP pro. I can only get XP home.
Is it still worth it?

No, just a simple LAN network.

XP Pro is similar to XP Home, but IMO I think that Pro is better for your game development needs.

Stick with Windows 2000 it is very stable, there is no need to get WinXP Home, if you have money for XP Pro then do it.

If your developing do NOT go with home. It's title says it all. It is much slower compared to Pro in terms of the different things you would do with it. Otherwise, just stick to 2k if you don't have the cash.

Stick with Win 2k. XP home is not as secure as 2k or XP Pro. Its like Win98 with XP features.

Aside from cosmetic GUI things, The major difference is the lack of encrypted filesystems, access control, group policies, and so on. (These only matter if you're on a big workgroup with multiple users) You'll also miss out on remote desktop and multiprocessor support.
For a single user development PC, XP home is just fine.

Acually XP Home has a noticable slower speed as its core is something closer to windows 98 and i have lots of experiance with XP Home crashing, XP Pro is much better for devolopment.

I wonder what's going on under the hood, though. At least I never installed Windows Service Pack 2. Avoid that one at all costs. (older versions of 3ds Max, like 5 and before, won't work with it, as well as many other programs)

Linux is a great working system, and it's free... I'm stuck with XP Home right now, and it seems to work fine (as in, equally well while compared to XP Pro).I wonder what's going on under the hood, though. You can get them to run. All you have to do is go into the new control panel and unblock. Sure its a hassle but im just saying.

XP pro is the way to go.
Even XP home beats most of them, but since you have Win2k I figure you would want XP pro's extra features.
