Cool stuff, you might have some problems in Torque though because those models are way over 700 polys. 700 Polys seems to be some kinda of Hard limit on weapon poly counts.

I have had a weapon wiht 1700 poly ingame and running fine. ALlthoung most of the extra detail can't really be sen if you

I don't think there is a poly count for weapons in the TGE, can't see any reason why there should be.I have had a weapon wiht 1700 poly ingame and running fine. ALlthoung most of the extra detail can't really be sen if you

I'd kill to be able to just use tga's or tiff's.

Tell me how the alpha map goes Clocks. The Cage on my Gauss rifle is using an Opacity map, the png format creates some nasty halos though despite the matting in photoshop. Though you have to zoom the barrel so it's full screen to see em ;). But they're there.. and they annoy me!I'd kill to be able to just use tga's or tiff's.

whatever community I know of- everyhwere people create mods and in this case games which all look the same. No wonder most people don't ever take a look at them. You have seen CS (and maybe a few others as well) and you've seen it all.
Personal opinion though
btw I like FPS games- it's just that I see littl sense i creating the next special forces game.
maybe this doesn't apply to you but it simply had to be said ;)

did any of you guys ever thought about that another shooter/mod/tc etc. promising new or realistic weapons might be boring?whatever community I know of- everyhwere people create mods and in this case games which all look the same. The project im currently invloved with is a Operation Flashpoint/Fallout FPS/RPG Hybrid. So yeah we're using some real weaponry, Im really trying hard to avoid cliche weaponry like your AK, Deagle ect. But its hard sometimes because people see other games and go "Oh that gun is cool make that!"
We are doing a bunch of futuristic arms but ATM its standard stuff right now. Also its sooo much easier to model a gun that you can get good hi-rez reference photos for than say coming up with a fesable looking "Laser Rifle" or something.

To the guy somewhat above me :)
Im making a game based on World War 2.
This kinda game will always have a audience no matter what else is up in time.
The type of people who play WWII games usauly have a general interest in that particular war/era.
Making a WWII with +64 players on the same server have never been done before, the oppotunity we have with TGE is just to good in regards of a WWII game to be missed.
Besides that I don't really care about what everybody else is making or if I'm just repeating others, I make this game cos it's the game I would want to play.
So I need to weapon to be as realistic as possible, however boring people think that is.
But as with the television, you always have the option to turn it off.

I was just wondering were you get your high res photos of the guns? I'd like to try modelling some of this stuff but need some reference points. I'd like to compile a whole wack of pictures so that when I do go to create something different I have reference points from real weapons that I can draw from.Alc

But Return to Castle Wolfenstein is no where near what I have planned.
RTCW is just Quake set in WWII and it will be the same kind of 12-14 year old frag-festing morons that ruin any kind of teamplay in games like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat.
RTCW must have teh worst netcode I have ever seen in a online MP game to date, they could off cause still fix this before release.
Other than that both side can choose any weapon the like including a minigun that wasn't even invented in WWII.
Add the very poorly pronounced Germna voice commands and you got a real sad and pale imitation of a real game.
No to mention that RTCW don't have big outdoor terrains.
I don't really feel that RTCW will be any real compatition to a TGE WWII game.

It's strange but unlike more recent wars this one is often depicted as more heroic as others. Not as if it wasn't as horrific as any of them but anyway.
Besides the Nazis as the ultimate evil....after the downswing of communism they are the ideal enemy.
Although my grandpa was soldier in the Wehrmacht don't worry that I'll comment on some very common mistakes about the Germans..about there being evil and good ones like everywhere.
I just told you that because it illustrates the fact that most of us know someone who took part in this struggle. That's one of the many reasons it is still so interesting for us all.
In fact I'm only opposed to uncreative repetition of the same old ideas- if your game gonna be different I'll be happy to check it out...and your homepage as well.
I'm working on something different though- I'm not so sure i could create the best shooter out there so I decided to make something else. A free 3d chat- offering the user tons of cool avatars, worlds (or rooms if you prefer), the option to create your own stuff, a lot of mini games so people won't get bored (even a very simple fps mode and vehicles) and much more together with a easy to understand interface.
If any of you would like to visit our homepage or forums feel free to do so.
We are always grateful for creative input!

as i say this is realy to help the mapping community for T2 but there is no reason i cant produce some quality models for you guys, the actual database wont be up for a about a week (want to get a load together first) but it will have vehicles, weapons and static shapes, player models will be added but due to the extra work involved wont be added yet for a while.
