Newbie Trying To Use MS C++ Express
by TyLem · in Torque Game Engine · 09/30/2004 (8:47 pm) · 45 replies
I have read all of the information on getting started but still do not have a clue. I want to start making games and do not know exactly how to start. I have everything downloaded in my compiler. I keep getting these errors in my compiler, so I clean and rebuild and when I rebuild the errors return. When I clean it the errors are gone, but you can not start creating a game unless you compile it clean . I am totally stuck.

Thanks Thomas but I do not know what settings to referr to I have checked in theProject/ Preferences/ View Code is not there but it is suppose to be, and that is where the settings are suppose to be located.
The compiler is VC++ 2005 Express and there are others who are having the same troubles but are ashamed to post.

Quote:Read teh post i made on your other spammed topic.ok I just read it, actually I have so many programs already but they are all educational edition and yes it did work, but it also stated that anything I create within the program can not be redistributed, which means my creation is thiers and I can not use or transfer what I have done, which really sucks.

I was really upset but I had no Warning,None Skipped, no Errors and I actually saw my Torque game that I could alter and began creating, but when I started to save the information and changes I did, I saw a warning stating my saved info. could not be redistributed and they had all rights and etc. This was on my Microsoft Visual C++ Program....that is totally frustrating! That is why I did not want to began creating in there, and I had better get used to the cheap stuff, although I am used to working on MS products only. This compiler is hard MSVC++ was easier.

There are very well written documents that tell you how to compile in step by step fashion, and you have been pointed to them. You have been told that the compiler you are trying to use is not a GG supported compiler. You need to use a supported compiler (Microsoft VC++ 7.1 or .Net is the best choice) if you want any help.

Make sure you have the Platform SDK installed and have VC++ configured properly to see the files. It is all detailed here but if you start skipping steps you are going to have problems. I have heard from quite a few people who have been able to compile TGE (not the max exporters) just fine using these directions.

I did not know that the software I have would not allow me to redistribute, until I started editing, suddenly I have to work with another product I have not learned. I love GG and the help that is available, and I respect your authority to protect the forums. If I have questions I know I am free to ask anytime, and hope I will not be (ousted ) for my questions. I am also a teacher and encourage my students to ask questions when they do not understand and there are other torquers who are having the same problems I have. I live on the Torque server daily and run into others who do not have MSVC++ 7.1 and can not afford it at the moment so I direct them to the VC++ link they are so happy, I have walked them through the processed steps of downloading, however they downloaded SDK for MSVC++ so we are having the same problems. I hope I am not doing the wrong thing by joining other Torquers to make this thing work and hope my questions are not condsidered as unwanted solicitations I am not advertising but really needed some questions answered because I just purchased the engine 3 weeks ago and am a newbie.
If my questions are Spam to Garage Games should I direct them from my personal email box and not post my Questions here?

I thought I was set because these are the programs I was taught to operate. I also read your article about Quiting your job to make games, and it is an excellent article. I beleive your article and serioulsy will strive and search for answers to make that dream work for me.

This is the second time my Questions are mentioned with the word SPAM. I needed serious help with my compiler, I am not advertising anything.
What else can I do if I need assistance, other members ask questions and are not shamed for thier submissions. I thought if I ran into a problem I could post questions too.

You stated that you own VC++ 6.0 I know for a fact that compiler works perfectly with Torque. We have extensive step by step instructions on how to use it.

Posting the same question in a bunch of different forums is spamming. Of course it is OK to band together with other community members to figure out problems. You stated that you own VC++ 6.0 I know for a fact that compiler works perfectly with Torque. Thanks Jeff for the prompt response, it's about 4 of us who have banned together and I guess they chose me as the person to ask the questions, lol and the VC++ instructions are excellent!! I thought we followed it step by step, but found that for the most part we did all download the SDK from the Torque Getting Started page and not the page for VC++ 6.0. We all totally admire you Jeff and hope to be like you one day in game creations. thanks for posting! :-)

6) Open up Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition Beta. Choose File->Open->Project/Solution and browse to\vc7\Torque SDK.sln
When I opened the file to browse for the Torque dir there was nothing there.

I will not give up never, but it's really frustrating when you follow steps and not skip anything and run into problems.

Open texture2bm8 settings C/C++ tab
catagory Code generation
Change Use run-time library: to multithreaded. (for first compile)
or it wont compile
btw you dont have to "clean" any thing out of the box. And if your i explorer is all windows updated that would be the only change you would have to make.
I did read ggs step by step a while back, but it didnt help. And i dont know if it changed.

That was a couple weeks ago, so its been fairly recent.
SharpShere is using Express though, which is unsupported. Good luck with that.

Well as far as compiling goes, I don't know anything about coding (c++), nor compiling, nor Visual C++ 6.0. Despite this, I was able to compile Torque without any errors or warnings using the tutorial Provided by GG. So in that regard, the tutorial is flawless (at least for VC++6.0 and WindowsXP).That was a couple weeks ago, so its been fairly recent.
