JEdit Launcher

by TyLem · in General Discussion · 09/18/2004 (9:38 am) · 7 replies

I am almost getting some where because I finally got the chance to follow instructions up to the jEdit installation. Strangely after I downloaded the file, I recieved a warning that my Java was not in a certain file, and next the warning said I did not have a jEdit Launcher, but I have jedit installed and I have Windows XP, so there are no components for Windows to download. I have all of the latest equipment on my computer. Please save me!

I had a similar problem when "upgrading" from 4.1 to 4.2! I installed 4.2 in a different directory and could not launch it. What I did was copy all files from the 4.2 directory to the 4.1 directory and it worked just fine. (Make backups before ofcourse )

Thanks Alex I will try to copy the files in 2 different places, like I already have a file in my Documents, so I will make this folder a Torque folder.

Erm, nope, sorry it was unclear. I had jEdit4.1 installed in i.e. c:\jedit41 which had all the files to start jEdit (including jEditLauncher). I then installed jEdit4.2pre15 in i.e. c:\jEdit42, which didn't work since some files were missing. I then copied all the files from c:\jEdit42 to c:\jEdit41 overwriting all files and voila, jEdit4.2 works since then. And remember: make backups before. ;)

I am going through everything step by step and found that I missed a few downloads.

I would recommend using JEdit 4.1 with TIDE. You can you can download an entire TIDE installation (JEDit included) here: torqueide.sourceforge.net/index.html

Stefan includes some extra plug-ins in this install.. and they will give you warnings about not being loaded. Ignore the warnings, and un-install the faulty plug-ins.

I also have an alternate cs.xml file for a different syntax highlighting setup. You can get it here:
prdownloads.sourceforge.net/torqueide/alternate_cs.zip?download

Just replace the Jedid/modes/cs.xml file with the one in the download.

Happy TIDEing!

Thanks!!! I just downloaded jEdit sucessfully a few hours ago, just finished a C++ upgrade....this is great news, I will go to the Sourceforge recommended , this is so cool to have all of this help, it really helps the transition to go smoothly. :-) Both of these links really Rock! and the download was fast.
