Guys
on chapter 12 Finney says that there is DEM files we can use it for our terrain, and give us a site but the problem is that the site ask for many for that files (if I'm not wrong) so is there any other place I can download DEM files ,
and is there any tutorials on how to convert them to torque terrains
thanks in advance.

That resource describes how to do it using free tools and free GIS data. Better GIS data is available if you have $$. I've been looking unsuccessfully for other tools to use, but as of today, IMHO MicroDEM is a beautiful piece of work and you need look no further.
The MilkShape3D website mentions a Terrain Generator plug-in for MilkShape3D. Ken's book includes MS3D 1.7.0 on CD; you can download 1.7.1 from the above URL and, to your delight, you will find Terrain Generator already built into 1.7.1. It's in the Tools menu. I've only played with TerrGen a bit, so I'm not sold on it yet. Ken's book included one picture of TerrGen, and no other information on it.

Also, check out the USGS website for sdts and dem data. Several other converters exist including sdts2dem, sdts2dxf, dem2tga. Wilbur, dem3d, arcexplorer, globalmapper, are some others. There is quite a bit of info out there.
Good Luck.
