I'll have to concur with Chip on this. I worked on the RTS addon pack over the summer (and I'm still working on it now). All the things you'll need for an RTS thing are quite doable. Torque is very extensible like that. And, though I know it may not mean as much coming from me (I might be a little biased) I must say that it will probably be more than worth it for you to buy the pack when it is released. I know that may mean a little waiting, but you can always iron out design elements in the mean time. Really though, when it comes down to it you could do an RTS from scratch. It is pretty much a time vs. money tradeoff. We have put in the groundwork already, so either you could pay for our code (not to mention docs and testing), or you could replicate those numerous hours of work on you own. On that note, I would like to add that it should be pretty reasonably priced. Now that I've gotten my little rant in I think I'll get back to work...

When do you expect the release of the RTS add-on pack? Hopefully is WILL NOT be a WindoZe only add-on. Also, what will the pack include? Just graphics? or some logic code?.....Thanks...

Edit: Let me rephrase. The RTS pack is not part of TGE originally, but if you want to use the pack you will want to purchase the actual game engine.

Eh, Phil.. TGE is multi-platform you know :) This addon is part of TGE and thus also multi-platform. You need to be a licensee to use it.Edit: Let me rephrase. The RTS pack is not part of TGE originally, but if you want to use the pack you will want to purchase the actual game engine.

I plan on purchasing the TGE for MAC , and would really like to purchase this add-on when its ready ... Too bad I need to run VPC to do map editing via Quark. Then again I can just use TGEs built in editor I guess...

As for a release date, we're not taking a guess right now. The pack is 95% feature complete, and is fairly bug-free, but we have an extremely limited amount of time to spend on it each week, so progress lately is slow. Still, it should be released *soon*.

Phil, our goal is of course to have the RTS Pack run on all platforms. Nothing Windows-specific has been designed in, and we'll be testing it on multiple platforms. As for a release date, we're not taking a guess right now. Sounds like "goodness" :o) If it gets posted on GarageGames "for sale" then I should catch it. If not, tag my email from my profile and alert me when its ready.
I do some coding at work, and when Im close to complete is when they want me to back off and start "something" else. (But thats when I want to crank and get it out of the way) So I feel you pain ....

I'm kind of curious here... just wonder if the RTS Pack is sold separately? or a add-on to the TGE...

The RTS pack is a addon and is sold seperately, and you need to get TGE as well to use it. (of course, since it's a add-on)

Release candidate? Sweet :) I have a good dozen RTS ideas-just like everyone else, hehe... Of course, team members, time, and money I have much less of...

It's in internal testing right now. You can't download it anywhere yet until it's released to the public. Just as Pat said to your last post.

Look through the resources for RTS style camera, also you will need the object selection resource, the commander map depending on your needs, and a few other resources.
Anything is possible with Torque pretty much, just a matter of modifications you will have to make to it.
