Animating Textures

Well, I have begun the slow process of learning 3D Modeling. I don't know as of yet whether or not I will continue to do 3D Art. If I stick with it, I will purchase 3DS Max (all $3,055 of it), however, in the meantime I'm using Anim8tor. Right now I'm working on an Arcade Dev Pack (More info can be found in the Game Ideas Section of the Forums) and I want to do an extremely simple stick figure fighting animation on one of the arcade machines moniters(Probably around 5 frames). Does anyone know how I could do this???

I don't understand why your trying to find your niche in 3d modeling with Anim8tor. Its generally hard to use primitive 3d programs and birth artistic creations. If you are thinking about buying 3ds max then do so, don't beat around the bush with Anim8tor cause its going to waste countless hours that you could have spent making something professional. All I can say is that if you are definitely not sure your going to do 3d art for a living, or even for a game project, don't buy 3ds max, and don't waste time in anim8tor. GOod luck in your endeavors

Sorry I didn't answer your question about the stick figure fighting animation, I don't really understand what you want to do. 5 frames is really fast, you might want to slow down the animation with at least 14 frames. Send away for the 3ds max demo cd for free on their website :

You can also try the Maya PLE, which is free, or Blender.

Remember: expensive doesn't necessarily mean "good", and the converse is true as well. I've seen plenty of fantastic work coming out of Blender and Wings3D, both of which are free, and Silo3D is another one people are taking a liking to, and that costs a paltry $109.

And before you say no one uses them for professional work, Blender was used for previs work on Spiderman 2, among other things, Wings3D is used by numerous artists at big game studios as their primary modeling tool (after which they export to whichever package their company is using), and Silo is stating to gain momentum in that department as well.
