Any good RTS software?

by Adam "Genocide" Estes · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 07/14/2004 (3:45 pm) · 8 replies

Does anyone have any good software for an RTS-type game. I understand that almost any software can create an RTS game, but I am asking for software that makes it easier to create one. I also need one that is fairly cheap, and can work without the fastest computer and an outdated video card. Just send your ideas, and I'll see if it runs O.K. with my computer. Thank you.

I think that it would be a good idea to make your own unique GE...

However, since you are not a programmer, I would suggest a google search. Maybe try to mod Torque. The possibilities are endless.

Your best bet is to consult the people who are making that RTS game. The website is www.sporegames.com.

Good luck.

P.S. Since, you're only 16, you might want to try to start on something smaller and simpler.

I agree with the "start simpler" approch as an RTS game is quite a large endevour to undertake.

but I will suggest you give BlitzBasic a try ( www.blitzbasic.com ) it currently comes in two flavors blitz3D and Blitzplus (what I have, and fully recommend)...to a certain extent both are fairly compatable (at least the core language)...It's not an Object Oriented language, but for the most part it is a honest to god programing language (the game Aerial Antics right here on Garage Games was developed in it)...it would also be very possable to program a game just like Starcraft in it....definetely worth a try.

You can check out Stratagus. It's 2D though, not sure what you're after.

I checked out Stratagus. It looks good from the screenshots, but I don't understand why it won't run... I've got the min specs. I'm using Win XP though. Does anyone else have this problem?
