GarageGames Strikes a Deal with Microsoft?

by Eric Powers · in General Discussion · 07/08/2004 (1:05 pm) · 9 replies

I was just reading Gamespot news a few moments ago when I came across this article about Microsoft's new XBOX Live Arcade service. The snippet of interest is:

Quote:Saying it was targeted at more-casual gamers, Allard presented the Arcade at tonight's Microsoft E3 conference. Though he didn't display any of the trivia or card games he alluded to, he did show off one of Arcade's retro games catalog, which will feature Namco classics like Dig Dug and Galaxian and PopCap Games' classic Bejeweled. Lesser-known, more-modern games, like Big Fish Games' Alien Sky and Feeding Frenzy, will also be featured, as will selections from Garage Games' catalog,.

You can check out the entire article here.

Now I'm assuming there's only one "Garage Games" ... There are some interesting prospects here if this holds to be true. Any info for us GG? :)

I like the XBOX, just wish it had more games.. seems like the PS2 is filled to the brim with games.. good ones at that.. like winning eleven 7. Sure hope the XBOX can strike a few deals that will bring them more games that keep quality in mind.

I fail to see how anyone could have a negative or sarcastic remark to something that will be a massively beneficial to all independant game developers if it is true.

Congratulations to GarageGames and the future that they bring to all independant game developers if this rumor is true. Once again we will owe you for opening up the market for us even more.

There was mention of this in a recent issue of Edge magazine. It's far from the end of the world, it simply means that certain GG titles will be appearing on the XBOX - at a lower price than most other games, I believe. More and more 'budget' titles are appearing on the PS2 and this looks to be a developing trend on other consoles too.

Given the XBOX's P.C. architecture, it makes good sense to me. It's not as though there will be too much difficlty in porting titles across, so I wouldn't fear about attention moving away from this community :)

Very interesting. I'd like to see some of our future titles running on XBox. This is a very nice opportunity.
