Book List and General Advice Needed pls :)

by Xinebessa · in General Discussion · 07/06/2004 (3:48 pm) · 2 replies

Basically to set the scene I'm new to game programming. My background so far consists mainly of visual basic applications, but I am looking to learn the torque engine and create a game with it. What I need however is a book list that would cover pretty much everything I would need to know in order to procede. From other threads I have already established that I need to get hold of 3d games programming all in one, and a c++ book or sorts. However is this enough to get started with ? I am purely interested only in the actual scripting or coding side of things, as I have friends who are more than able to do the modelling etc. If any of you could throw me together a basic step by step guide to how I should go about getting to the stage of being able to produce some basic games, I would be most appriciative.

Step 1: Get Ken's book
Step 2: Read Ken's book
Step 3: Build great games

Pretty simple. Yes, all you need to get started is Ken's book or you can scrounge through the resources here on getting started with Torque.

Best thing is to get your feet wet by making changes and seeing the effect. Look at some simple script changes you can do and go from there, or focus on where you think you need to make a change based on what you're trying to accomplish in your project.

Please read it, and if you find it useful, give it a good rating. Some gentleman gave it a rating of 2, which pulled down its rating. For what I reason, I don't know since he didn't even bother to leave a comment telling why.
