About the author

Ooo - about me! Currently on the second year of a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering. Hoping it will help me to fiddle around in Torque 3D and do some wicked stuff! Cheers!

1. I like development stories (probably because I'm a developer), interviews, fan-provided hints and strategies, and very busy forums.

2. Yikes - wish I knew. Getting your rank up on Google is a big one. Maybe trying to cross-link with other fan sites, or maybe a web ring. Advertising it on the game's official forums (just don't be spammy about it).

Which game is it, or is it your own?

I would say holding special events, doing creative and catchy things to keep the community going, is certainly a plus. Most people don't wanna just have a site that basically is nothing more than a boring old CMS thing. they want to have as much fun at your site doing stuff along with the game, than just the game itself. Definatlety word of mouth can sometimes be the best way, if you know friends which play the game.

Most of it depends on the game, if it's multiplayer, if it has mod capabilities, and if there are quite a few clans and groups.

Anyway, this is just my thought.

Amadeus, I'd recommend taking a look at Starmen.net which is a site dedicated to Earthbound for Super Nintendo (also my favourite game ;). They hold competitions based around the game, and have all kind of information related to it. I'm sure you could get some ideas from it.
