TSE Questions before buy.

by Andrea Bigiarini · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 06/30/2004 (12:16 am) · 5 replies

I'm interested to buy TSE, the demo rocks!
Only few questions:
1. TSE is intended to integrate with TGE or is a a new full featured game engine that substitute TGE?
2. What happen if the viewer doesen't have the lastest video card and drivers?
3. What kind documentation is supported for the new feaures?
4. Is TSE compatible with Synapse Light Pack?

THX you all and have a fantastic and lucky day!

1. New, full featured.
2. It falls back to 'lesser' techniques, dropping off shaders and level of detail. Eventually there will be a fallback all the way to the standard pipeline like the TGE uses...however that does not seem to be implemented yet.
3. Not much documentation yet, but there is a start. I imagine it'll come up to speed somewhat quickly.
4. No...the TSE will have its own dynamic light system according to the 'future path' stuff...however, the synapse guys have mentioned that they intend on porting in some of their features to it. Might be interesting to see what both the TSE team in general and synapse as add on come up with.

As another answer to a question you did not ask, TSE is in no way ready for production use or even much building of a world...it is missing too much at this point, in my estimation. Get it now because it is cheaper, because you'll learn the materials setup, etc...but develop your game in torque, perhaps with the synapse lighting pack installed...port later.

THX David for your help.
I'm really excited to put hands on TSE but for what I've understood is "Work in progress" more than TGE.
I have the Synapse Light pack and it's a good enhanchement for TGE.

"Not too much documentation" is for the scripting calls or for the .cc code?
THX again

Most everything is meant to rely back on the TGE stuff I believe. Beyond that I haven't gone crazy with it. It is meant to be TGE but with a better renderer...

Do you have information of the outdoor capabilites of the engine? Is there more empahsis on outdoor areas or is most of the improvements attached to indoor areas?

Will there be much work involved in migrating a game made in TGE to TSE?
