TSE, Showtool

I have been using Torque 1.2 Manual to work out how to use ShowTool.

I am having fun trying to under stand Torque Shader Engine. I have 10 years at programming and 3 years on 3D MAX 4.2.

If you tell me to go up on the net to ask my questions?
My answer is, first I have to know what an I looking for, befor I can ask a intelligence questions. I am a newbie on Torque.

Tutorials, Examples and Study Guides hole student hands so they can ask INTELLIGENCE questions on what they are learning.

I will probably going to eat my words on this, BUT.

Incomplete, bad, or Bata documents are better then NO documents at all.

So help! Can you tell me the steps by steps on how to work on TSE ShowTool.

I'm not sure I follow... do you need to know how to load the showtool? Or do you not know how to use it when it's open?

Are you sure that is a good idea? TSE is incomplete, so is the documentation. And I don't see what you mean with:

"Incomplete, bad, or Bata documents are better then NO documents at all."

There are documents, they are just not complete.

Most of the TGE docs apply to TSE, too. So you have to look at all those. There could probably be more and better but they are by no means missing!

I have ShowTool up and running. I do under stand what it is. All through Chapter 8 it tells me this.

The main document that tells you about ShowTool is Torque manual, in Animation Setup, under The ShowTool Revisited. This is not a tutorial. It do not tell you about all the button in ShowTool.

What I mean by incomplete!
There are two figures that do not load. Tread Control and Transition Control figures.
I have tried PC and MAC browses. There are six figures in Chapter 8 that do not load but is another things.

1) I get a pink screen and not the black one from TGE ShowTool. Is that normal?

2) Where in the documentation does it talk about the Miscellaneous dialog box and the button that on it?

3) All through Chapter 8 it tell me to load the example (green guy) into ShowTool but not how to use the example in the tool to see if it has an errors, like not loading or locking up the PC up.

4) In the documentation will a newbie see that something is wrong? If you load your DTS and it did not lock up the PC did it work??

@James: Check the console for errors.

I say that these two files are there.

demo/server/script/materials.cs
demo/server/script/glowbuffer.cs

the console say they are missing.

That's mysterious.

Make sure there is no .cs.dso for those files.

I was wrong

If you read Chapter 8 as a hole document, ( 68 pages of MS Word document ) you will see that the detail information for DTS files, adjustLODs and ShowTool drop out in the 8 sections.

For me, a forest and tree problem.

It does need to be MORE VERBOSE in though parts where it asks you to export a shape file and run it in ShowTool.

Newbie need to have there hands hold. Not just export and run.

Software
Windows XP Home Edition

Drivers
ATI CATALYST WindowsXP 4.6 (newest driver)

Hardware
ATI 8500

Everything works, Torque 1.2 and 2

ShowTool runs in a PINK screen?

Thank You

The pink screen is there because it's the default clear color. It's the default clear color for debugging since black polygons are hard to see against a black background.

I take it y'all would prefer a black background? ;)

The pink screen? Yes, it's supposed to be pink in TSE. Although it doesn't need to be. It's just good debug color because of its unatural hideous hue.

How would you change the background? I am using this in a menu to spin the chosen character and the black background is pretty rough looking

This has got to be one of the strangest threads here. I'm not sure what a single response is asking/saying :P
