XBOX Port for TSE????
by Michael Kupka · in Torque Game Engine · 06/17/2004 (7:12 pm) · 54 replies
Is there any consideration being given to designing TSE to be portable to consoles? XBOX would be the easiest because of CPU, GPU, Memory.
I realize that Torque needs some work especially in memory management in order to run well on consoles.
This would be nice to have.

Heck, I remember blowing the lid off the new, enhanced Torque demo. Man, I felt bad about that one!
So, maybe we should shush and just be pleasantly surprised. Oh, and try to write some kick-butt games in the meanwhile. :)

Heehee. GG probably hates us. We have such a way of ferreting out information that they might want to keep under wraps until it's finalized/done/etc.Heck, I remember blowing the lid off the new, enhanced Torque demo. Man, I felt bad about that one!

Yeah, I bet Ben G just quickly created that empty XBox page right when he posted, chuckling mischeviously, knowing that he would start another thread that would get 100 posts in a day.;)

I have to admit, even the thought of "gamebox" support over the next 2 years makes me quiver. We have a marketing niche that is aimed at "gamebox" development, and the concept of having TSE/TGE support in any form makes me a very very excited Producer!

These are not the droids you are looking for...

We are definitely not involved in any droid development. ;)

Man, this week has been one let down after another...
Seriously, though, I wish the bar would be lowered a bit for console games when it comes to indie/small developers. I know there are those who argue that it's good the bar is so high, as we'd see millions of crap games otherwise -- But, uh, I get to see hundreds of crap games right now, as it is. They just look prettier than anything I could come up with... :)
Anyway, it's really not about trying to keep the market clean, it's more about who can afford those pricey dev-kits and licenses.
I almost wish some small console maker would take on the Big Boys with an offering of their own. There's the Phantom, but people don't seem to be all that impressed with their PR. The Indrema was another spot of excitement, but that didn't last long.
Either that, or Microsoft (or Sony, or Nintendo or whoever) will acknowledge our existance and start lowering the requirements and offer free or low cost dev kits. And maybe generous licensing, like GG's.
Neither, unfortunately, are very likely to happen. Look at Microsoft; They've blown over a billion bucks, but they're still behind Sony. Unless someone is independantly rich, they won't be able to afford to compete. And when it comes to devkits, there's no money to be made from people like us. Worse, we could potentially pollute the market with competetion games that might steal the limelight. Or give people a bad experience due to crashy/incomplete games.
Er, didn't mean to ramble on like that.

What? First someone at GG says Torque won't write a game for me, and now they're saying they aren't developing droids??Man, this week has been one let down after another...

I was confused as well; GG's stance on XBox has been "sure would be cool!/prob. not; licensing costs" and yet this story about MS's value XBox line w/ GG games has been around for a while now. What gives? I think we need a real answer from some GG folk...-s

If the rumors about the Xbox2 are True, PS3 might as well stay home and wait for PS4 to get there.
