Need OpenAL drivers on Mac

by Joseph Hocking · in Torque Game Engine · 06/17/2004 (8:54 am) · 7 replies

I'm finally about to buy Torque but I just discovered something rather concerning when I run the demo on my Mac. It gives me an error that it cannot initialize OpenAL, and the link to download drivers just takes me to the products page on garagegames. Where can I get the drivers I need to hear the demo's audio on my Powerbook, and can I ensure these drivers are distributed with my game for people who need them?

Thanks for that link, but sound still isn't working. It's odd; I installed the download from that link and now I'm not getting the error when I run the Torque demo, but I still don't hear anything. Note that sound works for Torque games like Marble Blast (I've not tested with all the games.)

Have you tried to fallback to the driver before that?

How do I obtain the older driver?

By the way, I just noticed something. In the audio options for the demo it refers to OpenAL version 10.2, but the OS X download is version 10.1 something. I'm guessing that's the problem; if I purchase Torque, can I choose to use an older version of OpenAL to ensure compatibility across platforms? Along those same lines, can someone else test the Torque demo on a Mac to verify whether or not they hear anything?

I dont hear anything, also cant find a place to get the old drivers. Can someone help us out here. I too have the latest OpenAL drivers, runing 10.3 and am not getting any sound. People have told me to revert to older openAL drivers, but I dont seem to be able to find those. Thanks for your help... :0

For now, the best solution is to install an older revision of the drivers. A mirror of them can be found here.
