Ok I'm looking around at 3d programs. I can't seem to find any that support .max files other than (obviously) 3dmax.
So far I've looked at milkshape, QuArK, and a few others. I need something $100 or less.
It looks like people here are using QuArK, but must have some kind of exporter/importer? And exporter alone isn't enough for me, as I really want to look at the .max files in the examples to get a clue.
Thanks for any feedback

So to do 3d models for Torque, I'm stuck buying 3dmax? What do you use? I can't throw down $3000 for this.
Ok, doing some research it looks like there is an exporter for milkshape and I'm good there. Is there something that imports .DTS files so I can check out the examples?

You can use milkshape or blender to actually produce the objects. But you arent going to be able to just get hold of max files and export them. You might try asking some milkshape or blender user to send them some of thier test models.
Or download some models from polycount, load them in milkshape and try exporting them.

Youre not going to get anything that imports max files (or at least its unlikely). You can use milkshape or blender to actually produce the objects.
