Y can't i add dynamic fields to my program?

I click on the add buton to add dynamic fields into my map, but they don't show up, and they don't work. So how can i get them to show up and work?

When you click the add button, if you're working with an unlocked object, it should bring up a dialog box that lets you specify the name and value of the field.
