Best Data Compressor? ZIP,RAR,ACE,SIT,LHA...?

I found this tool-> UHARC 0.4 BETA High Compression Multimedia Archiver by Uwe Herklotz

It's 100% Freeware for NON commercial use.

"Best" ?

You could say "best" was (Info/PK)Zip as the zip algorithm is well known and can be recovered if corrupted. Oh it's free too.

Best for compression would probably be bzip2 (perhaps)

I personally favour cross platform stuff than "windows only" stuff

Sorry for may bad english,,,I forgot to Write "Best Ratio" or "tightest compressor"...

Personally Im interested in reducing the size of the file for web download.

UHARC is only Beta test, maybe later they have cross platform support.

I personally use .7z (search for 7zip) when transferring files between me and my artist, as it compresses better than others I have used in general.

Bzip2 is considered by many to be the best compression. Uharc is typically used by thieves. I don't know if its any good, but I haven't seen it widely used by anyone other than the pirates trading CDs.
If you simply want the best supported, widely known/compatible, with great compression, I would and do choose rar.
