TSE demo not working on ATI 9200.

by Nathan Tran · in Torque Game Engine · 06/04/2004 (11:33 am) · 80 replies

Hi,

My setup:

ATI 9200 128mb
DirectX 9b
Catalyst Drivers v4.5, v4.6beta

I get the following problems:

The demo runs but when I load the walkthrough all I see are the UI overlays, and occasionally the skybox and a floating cube with a flow chart texture. Everything else is purple.

Screenshot:

Things I've tried:

- Checked AA setting. Made sure it's on application pref
- modified the pref file: forcePixVersion = 1; forcedPixVersion = 1.3;

Any suggestions?

Nathan.

Also, you may want to move the sliders all the way to quality, too.

I always uninstall my Cat.drivers and Control Panel (what a PITA ;-) ), and yes--I had my D3D settings set on "Quality".

I'll try Driver Cleaner anyway--probably wouldn't hurt to run it and make sure.

Farcry ran fine with a reasonable amount of shader lovin' going on, so I know it does at least that. :-)

Update: No luck with that either.

Ah well. :)

I have a ATI 9600XT and i have the same problems i saw Brian say it worked on a 9600 so why not mine?

Do you have the latest build of the demo?

I said that because it's working fine on our 9600 in-house. I think it's running on Windows 2000.

FYI FarCry works fine because it is a high profile game and both ATI and nVIDIA made sure their drivers work for it. Someday we will hopefully get the same love from the IHVs.

Yeah, I understand that part Brian (that ATI/ nV are more open to working on the huge games). I'm just trying to be helpful to you guys (and want to have some fun checkin' out the shaders). ;-)

I pretty well gave up on it, but if you'd like to try to get it to work, we can give it another go.

Ah, OK Eric, looking back on your original post, it's the fact that you are running on 4.3 drivers with WinME. I highly highly recommend you upgrade to 2000/XP not least because ATI and nVIDIA aren't keeping their drivers up to date with that OS. 2000 will probably run better on your system than XP, FYI.

If you can upgrade sometime soon, please come back and post to this thread and tell us if that solved your problem.

OK, I was afraid of that, but thought maybe it was just for the older cards only.

I am getting the pink screen as well, here are my system specs:

GeForce 3 ti200, 64mb, AGP 2x
AMD Athlon 1.33
Asus A7V266-E
512 megs pc2100
Windows XP

I have dx9 and the latest video drivers

I would be more than happy to be your guinny pig, if you need me.

Hmm... another Athlon/Via KT133 chipset system. That makes three listed here, I think? (unless you don't count mine. *sniff*). I'd bet Sabercyd's is too.

Could be a red herring. I'm just sayin'. :-)

Hmm...what version of the Via 4in1 drivers? Changed their name to Hyperion drivers or some such now. You can grab them at Via Arena.

I'm not running a Via chipset myself, but I know back when I was running a Thunderbird setup those drivers always seemed to clear things up.

Tried it, no effect. Thanks, though.

Jim - what screen rez are you running the demo at? Are you letting it do auto textures, or are you forcing to high? Try running at 800x600 with the textures forced to low. That should help.

Also - do you have the latest directx 9.0b?

I grabbed the latest version of DX just to make sure, but it didn't help. Tried the 800x600 with low textures and that didn't work either. I also tried changing my image settings on my video card to performance, but that didn't help either.

Don't feel like you need to get it working on my machine for me. If you feel this is waisting your time, then skip it.

I'm getting exactly the same problem, tried all of the suggestions above, still a pink screen. Using latest cats.

Athlon 1.4Ghz T/Bird
ASUS A7N8X-X board
ATI Radeon 9500 Non-Pro
512 PC2100 DDR RAM

Anyone solved this yet?

I've also tried all the different steps with no luck.

btw, I do have a "Athlon/Via KT133" setup like Eric mentioned. The Motherboard is a Giga-Byte K7XE.

The only thing I have to ask is are ya'll running your windows updates to get all the other functional packs downloaded...I did that when City of Heroes came out because the game wasn't working right and it fixed all the problems.
