TSE demo not working on ATI 9200.

by Nathan Tran · in Torque Game Engine · 06/04/2004 (11:33 am) · 80 replies

Hi,

My setup:

ATI 9200 128mb
DirectX 9b
Catalyst Drivers v4.5, v4.6beta

I get the following problems:

The demo runs but when I load the walkthrough all I see are the UI overlays, and occasionally the skybox and a floating cube with a flow chart texture. Everything else is purple.

Screenshot:
nathantran.homeip.net/images/TSE1.pngnathantran.homeip.net/images/TSE2.png
Things I've tried:

- Checked AA setting. Made sure it's on application pref
- modified the pref file: forcePixVersion = 1; forcedPixVersion = 1.3;

Any suggestions?

Nathan.

That's exactly what I see on my computer with a GeForce3 64MB card (Gigabyte GV-GF3000). Current drivers and DX9b.

It works great on a different computer with a ATI 9000 Pro 128MB with current drivers tho.

Update,

I'm getting the same thing with the updated shader demo. Any one else using a 9200?

Nathan.

Nathan, did try modifying the forcedPixVersion to 1.4 as well? What pixel shader version does the console automatically detect? (Look in console.log for the lines below "Direct3D Device Found")

I'm using a Radeon 9500 and come up with the same pink screen.

700mhz AMD
288MB RAM
WindowsME
DX9b
Radeon 9500
Catalyst 4.3(omega)* *4.3 is the highest the WindowsME drivers go

OK, we don't have a 9200 or 9500 to test on, our 8500, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800, and X800 all work fine though. This is a driver issue, contact ATI, there's really nothing we can do about it.

Are you guys all on Win98/ME?

Nathan,

I have a 9200 with the latest catylst drivers. Seems to work fine for me. I also swapped in a 9800 on the same machine and things are ok. I'm running XP Pro as the OS with the latest version of DX9.

TSE may not support 98 properly. It's not an OS we've done much testing on - everyone here runs XP, Linux, or OS X. If there's a big need for the support, we can look into it.

Sure this is not a camera issue?

I took out all the markers for the cam path. And i got the pink screen. No place to render/nothing to render?

Hmmm I run XP pro a ATI All In Wonder 9200 and it runs fine!

I have directx 9 and the latest nvidia drivers on my geforce TI 4200 ... and it tells me it can't find a card capable of 1.1 pixel shaders...

it didn't say that before I updated my drivers, but it did say I had old drivers and needed to update them, plus the text had little boxes around it.

Windows 2000
2.6Ghz Intel, 512m RAM

Just for reference, here's the specs on my PC with "Pink screen":

AMD 1.4GHz
1GB PC-133 RAM
WinXP HE SP1
GeForce3 64MB(Gigabyte GV-GF3000 w/current drivers).
DX9b

There were no issues whatsoever with my Win98 box, other than relatively low fps (9-15 pretty steady the entire demo at high resolution).

Win98 latest updates, 512M, approx 1.5GHz
GeForce 5600 Ultra 128M (and I didn't touch drivers, and they almost have to be out of date, wasn't going to muck around with them for a demo)
DirX 9.0B

So in other words, I doubt that much of what you did was OS specific enough to cause a problem simply due to Win98, since mine worked fine.

Drivers are mysterious creatures.

Do you guys have your performance sliders on the middle or "quality" settings instead of the "performance" settings?

No luck with "Performance" either, Ben.

I see there are two of us with AMD rigs. I wonder if this could be a hint? Mine is one of the original Athlon (Classic?).
Asus K7V mobo.

Have you tried the latest build of the demo?

No. I'll try it tonight when I have an hour and a half to download it. :)

Another update.

I tried the following suggestions:

- forcing Pix version to 1.1, 1.3, 1.4
- pulled the sliders all the way over to performance in D3D tab.
- turning off 2nd monitor on my dual monitor setup.
- tried shader related demos from the Ogre project and most of them work w/o a glitch.

My setup:

- Athlon Thunderbird 800
- 512 mb RAM
- Ati 9200 128 mb.
- ECS K7S5A v1.0 motherboard.
- Winxp Pro Sp1
- DirectX v9b.

I would really like to see the cool new effects please help.

Nathan.

Another thing to try is running Driver Cleaner. If you haven't been uninstalling your previous drivers before installing new ones, then you can get some nasty side effects.
