TSE Artifacts
by Simon Waite · in Torque Game Engine · 06/03/2004 (1:08 am) · 33 replies
I dunno if it's my machine (P4 2Ghz, 1Gb Ram, GF3 Ti 200) but I'm getting some shearing artifacts.
It's not going to put off me buying it though ... wheres my creditcard?...

Also older drivers will give interesting "interesting" results too.
Right, deadline to meet.

@Stefan: I read that GF4s aren't really supported as they're really GF2 technology. (NV10 rather than NV20?)Also older drivers will give interesting "interesting" results too.

GF4's are supported, GF4 MX's aren't.

See if your driver is forcing full screen AA on.

Everything works GREAT, the cubemaps does, the other stuff too. Just not the orc ;)
@Simon Waite: They said even GeForce 3 is supported :P GF4 supports 1.3 shaders, but I guess not very well.

@Rick Overman: Both Antialiasing and Anistropic Filtering are forced to FALSE on my drivers. Also, this doesn't seem to change with changing resolution from 1024x768 to 640x480.Everything works GREAT, the cubemaps does, the other stuff too. Just not the orc ;)

Geforce 4 ti and MX lines are very different. Ti supports pixel shaders 1.3 while the MX doesn't, and even a Geforce2 is faster than the MX line of the Geforce4. It's just a Geforce2 with some slow shader support.

I found stuff happened if i changed resolutions mid-demo. if i quit and started back up, i was artifact free.

That is a known issue (fortunately?). :)

You will definitely have problems if you force the detail to be high if you only have a 64MB card. That's actually why we added the auto detect on how much RAM you have.

Stefan - how much RAM does your GF4 have? You have latest drivers right? You only get artifacts when you force to high detail textures? @Joseph: Than the Gf2 Ultra? I don't think so.

I have a GeForce FX 5600 (right, something between 5200 and 5700), and the demo wasn't too smooth... It's a P4 2.8Ghz with 1Gb DDR. I guess TSE will get better with time, like good wine.

How much on board memory does your GeForce FX 5600 have?

I was considering to buy it now, but after seeing this I decided to wait. It would be useless to me at this point anyway. /me goes back to making games with TGE for now ;)

On my GF 4200 Ti (wich is faster then some newer GeForce FX cards by the way) it doesn't look good at all. Is it normal to have holes in the terrain? Is it nomal to "flikker"? With flikkering I don't really mean flikkering, but it hurts my eyes. Its like there's absolutely no anti aliasing, and no Anisotropic Filtering filtering. Everything works tough.I was considering to buy it now, but after seeing this I decided to wait. It would be useless to me at this point anyway. /me goes back to making games with TGE for now ;)

I have a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (128M onboard), and while my machine didn't support much more than 9-15 fps, the graphics themselves were outstanding. I could detect no issues whatsoever, from 1024x768 and higher resolutions.
In a phrase, the demo looked outstanding.

Something is probably pretty severely hosed if you're only getting 15fps. On a GF4Ti last night I was seeing about 100fps. The EA demo is rough, but it's not that rough.

Particulairly the glow effects shine THROUGH the interiors outside and in the rooms beside the one liten up by the glow.
This only seems to happen when using "Force High Detail Textures"
Also, this made it drop to 1-2 fps for me as soon as the Orc is in sight.
Very strange, but won't put me off either :)
