I'd really love to see someone properly implement a close combat weapon system into the game, much like Oni or Jedi Knight 2/3. I mean if they managed it in quake, surely we can do it here :)

And yes, Realm Wars has melee weapon moves.

There's one or two projects like that running AFAIK. I'd search on this site some. And yes, Realm Wars has melee weapon moves.

RW may have melee combat, but so far it is stupid to use. Why not use a crossbow? Anyway, it's difficult to hit anything with it anyway.

I'd have to agree with Mr. Goldstien on this one. The melee system in RW is pretty hard to use and "locks" the characters movement in some strange way.

it locks your character up so that it can't move left or right while swinging. GG had a good reason, but it was only good sounding on paper. When translated into the game, it made it really dumb, difficult, and unrealistic.

With that said though this is one of the areas that we are changing for the next release of RW. Nothing prevents you from using it yourself with the appropriate updates and changes though. If you do please let me know so that I can give you the proper credits list to include in your game.

I will agree with you there on this. The 'no turning' feature was something that James Margaris really wanted in order to prevent people from swining about at the last second, since he was the producer at the time with final say that's how it went. and in third person if your too high "up" over his head, he aims at Korks feet, so you have to horizon it out a bit to hit Kork in the chest.

I think the "no turning" feature isnt included in the RW melee tutorials. I just applied it and tried the whole swing-and-turn thing. Worked fine. It is clunky in first and third person, when your in first your head moves around with the sword, makin a *snapping-fingers-moving-head* dont go there girlfriend, uh-huh;, look...and in third person if your too high "up" over his head, he aims at Korks feet, so you have to horizon it out a bit to hit Kork in the chest.
