Turbo Squid's Custom Modelling Service

Just curious if anyone has used this service and has any feedback on the quality, speed, and pricing?

Our project has a modest amount of funding and we need to outsource some of our 3D Character modelling needs, not as much characters, but character props. We have excellent concept art already done w/ specifics of what we need, and were thinking of outsourcing through turbo squid, possssssssibly.

Why not outsource the work to some of the talented individuals that are within this community? There are quite a few artists here that are capable of doing professional level work, plus they are able to setup your models for a DTS export and even export the work for you (something that I doubt that this Turbosquid service would do for you). Honestly, I don't think that you could beat getting art assets that are guarenteed to work with Torque right out of the box.

Turbo squid is also very author unfriendly. If this has carried over to the 'Custom Modeling' area then you'll be paying through the nose for it.

However because of it's liberal 'hiring' policy, it does attract a lot of cheaper foriegn artists who can remain competative even under the higher margins. If this worked similar to places like rentacoder and your only lead factor is price, it may help.

Logan is very correct though, getting a model to DTS can be half the fight. GG provides some excellent facilities for finding artists, however they've become increasingly less useful over time as they're little non labour intensive ways to weed out the active people.

Having been a GG forum user / IRC user for some time I could only name a handful of top end artists (that's not saying there arn't more here). And they're either real busy, or real expensive (not that good art will ever be cheap).

@Timothy: If you want a list of talented artists that I know and trust not just to do great professional level work, but also setup and export the model for DTS then please ask. I honestly feel that you will find the same talent level here in the community as you will in Turbosquid, so why not stay indie?

I definately considered looking here first, no worries. We are looking to begin outsourcing this stuff near the middle / end of June so I am just generating a list of potential canidates within our budget.
