Pointshop 3D to be released Open Source

On May 31st 2004, the open-source application Pointshop3D 2.0 will be released (www.pointshop3d.com). Several new tools and plugins will be included, such as Boolean operations and free form deformation for shape modeling, noise/outlier removal and hole filling for scanned data, ICP, watermarking, and more. Additionally, fast and high quality point renderers exploiting modern graphics hardware will be published.

We will also distribute Pointshop3D 2.0 on CD including sources, binaries for Windows and Linux, models and documentation. The CD will be handed out at the IEEE/EG Symposium on Point-Based Graphics in Zurich (www.point-graphics.org).

This is a great resource for people looking for a full-featured commercial quality editor for little cost ($free). Having the source is just plain nice too. Enjoy.

Erm, looks great Bil, but does that mean we can eventually triangulate the mesh from the pointcloud?

Otherwise, its kinda non useful. But if it does, thats great :) Where's a cheap 3D scanner? :)

True however geometry is geometry. I haven't had a chance to look at the source (there's a pre-release version available now) so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to export to a format (say dts) but I'm sure anything can be munged if you put enough effort into it (not saying that I'm going to do that though).
